I have not had a lot of luck with humidifiers and I have owned small one gallon and large cabinet style humidifiers. Winters in Minnesota bring many cold, dry days and my skin and house plants have paid the price. I was hesitant to spend ninety bucks on a "whole house" machine and had my doubts that this one would do the job. I was in for a nice surprise! It has two fan speeds, high and low. It is somewhat noisy on high speed but I soon found that the very quiet low speed would actually do the job. It puts 2+ gallons of water into the air every 24 hours in my small apartment. No more electric sparks when I touch a light switch, no more scaly skin and I can even see a nice improvement in my house plants. The two 1 gallon water containers are easily refillable and the machine is not hurt if I forget to refill it on time....it just blows dry air. It runs 24 hours a day and it is one of the best investments I have made!

I like the size, it is not as big and bulky as other whole house humidifiers. It has 2 water tanks which hold 1.22 gallons each and are made out of flexible plastic which makes them less likey to leak or crack over time. The mist is so fine you do not notice it coming out of the machine, but you can tell it is working as the water bottles empty out as one would expect. It draws dry air in from the bottom, which goes through the moistened filter, then out of the top of machine. It has settings for different humidity levels which means it will shut off automatically when it reaches the level you have it set at. There is an 800- number available for ordering filters if you want to order them direct. The filter cost me $8.75 each, which is very affordable.

I have owned this product for about three weeks now and I'm finding it to be an excellent buy. I have had none of the leakage issues that were described in some of the other reviews. When I received it, the filter was dislodged, but I put it back in properly, filled the tanks, turned it on, and let it run. It is loud on the high speed, so I mostly keep it on low speed where it is whisper quiet. At first, I was skeptical that it could humidify a whole house (the specs say it'll cover 2000 square feet or so). I have a 1000 sq. foot apartment and it ran straight for about 2.5 days. However, after that it started kicking off as one would expect. Right now, even on the low setting, it's putting about one container of water into the air every 24 hours or so. It made a big difference in my comfort level AND my sinuses during the heating season. I'd definitely recommend it!!!

After one week, the unit began leaking water. Before that, it had been an adequate unit for a small room but having spent over an hour mopping up, I can't give this poorly made machine more than a single star.

I bought the unit Two weeks ago. Oct. 2012. So far the unit has provided enough humidity in the house to make a noticeable difference. The only con I have is I would like to have a "med" setting on the fan as opposed to only a high and low setting. Otherwise I would recommend it. My house is about 2000 sq feet and it seems to benefit all the rooms.

This humidifier has 2 settings: low which sounds like a motor constantly rattling and high, well imagine an industrial size fan running. The design is awful, there is two little cups in the back where you set these 2 big water canisters into. On the inside this water empties into a tray that the filter sits into. But this tray is not enclosed! Basically there is an oval shaped hole in the bottom of this humidifier, so when you'd want to clean it, good luck trying to get it to a sink without spilling about half the contents of the tray. I've bought and owned numerous Sunbeam humidifiers over the years and have been very happy with them, but not this one. It's definitely not worth what they were charging for it and I would not recommend it at all.

There were more good than bad reviews and there is one that says the people complaining of leaks and noise were doing something wrong. So I bought it. I shouldn't have. I did exactly what I was supposed to....put it on a flat, sturdy surface, made sure the lids were tightened and not leaking, made sure the springs were working. Put the water containers in and they emptied about one eighth of the way. According to the "manual" you were supposed to let them completely empty then refill, then turn it on. We let it set for a couple hours and they did not drain any more. I emptied the tanks, emptied the humidifier and started again. This time one of them emptied.....all over my table and floor. Supposedly there is a limiter that keeps it from over-flowing...that didn't happen. Emptied everything again and tried again. Again they only emptied a little bit. I turned it on to see if it would pull the water down into it. Having it on the lowest setting it made a horrendous rattling noise. Sigh. Another night spent not being able to breathe well and I'll return it tomorrow and start new.

I picked up this humidifier for about $89 plus 10% Sales tax, along with the service plan... It came to about $107 out the door. The product works, but it has an extremely poor design which causes it to leak out the bottom. For whatever reason the manufacture decided to leave the bottom place open for some strange reason. The product is also noticeably loud. I took it back and spent another $10 to purchase the Honeywell Quiet Care Cool Moisture Multi Room Humidifier HCM-6009 instead. No comparison!!! Spend the extra!

I recently purchased this unit and only one of the tanks goes empty while the other remains full, is this normal or a defect? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am thinking about returning this.

    • A. Humidifiers should be cleaned regularly with a light solution of chlorine bleach and water. I clean all areas that are in contact with water and/or moisture as well as a wipe down of entire unit. Replace filter as necessary too when they start to turn brown/grayish.

    • A. The instruction sheet tells how to clean it daily and weekly. Run it dry of water, unplug, wash filter, etc., having used other similar humidifiers every winter for 20 years, I have discovered it works for me to add about 1 teaspoon of clorine bleach to each water bottle about every 3rd fill and clean by the instructions after 3 months, which in the south will be end of seasons use.

    • A. There are cleaning instructions in the manual that came with your humidifier. It is relatively simple. Run the humidifier on high without the water tanks and filter for 30 mins. Turn it off and wipe out with a clean cloth. That's it. The filter needs to be changed when it turns brown from top to bottom.

    by Carolyn 10/31/2012

    • A. Gravity keeps the water from flowing over the trough where the filter sits. Once the filled tanks are in place, they will gurgle as they fill the trough. Once the trough is full, the gurgle will stop and gravity will prevent overflow. Don't disturb the tanks or the unit once the tanks are filled and in place in the unit.
