About the author

Biography of Fluke, Joanne

Joanne Fluke was born in Swanville, Minnesota in 1943. While pursuing her writing career, she worked as a public school teacher, a psychologist, a musician, a private detective's assistant, a secretary, a short order cook, a florist's assistant, a caterer and party planner, a computer consultant, a production assistant on a TV quiz show, and half of a screenwriting team with her husband. She writes the Hannah Swensen Mystery series which includes original family recipes for baking. Her other works include The Stepchild, Vengeance Is Mine, Video Kill, Dead Giveaway, and Deadly Memories.

Review by Library Journal (2012-09-01)

The delectable duo of cookie baker-cum- amateur sleuth Hannah Swensen and narrator Suzanne Toren return with another scrumptious murder. When the keyboardist for the Cinnamon Roll Six jazz band is murdered practically right under her mother's nose, Hannah knows that she had better solve this case fast. Meanwhile, the marriage of her ex-boyfriend Norman Rhodes and Doc Bev is imminent, and people are coming out of the woodwork begging Hannah to stop it. Toren's calm demeanor reflects Hannah's lack of alarm over dead bodies. Imagining Norman married to that scheming, cat-hating dentist leaves Hannah less sanguine.

Verdict: Toren wears the denizens of Lake Eden so comfortably, it's difficult to remember that they are fictional. The delectable recipes would really work better as a PDF accompanying the CDs, but at least Toren's voice has no calories.

Lake Eden's spring jazz festival is off to a rocky start when the headliner act's tour bus overturns, killing a musician. In her 15th outing, Hannah (Devil's Food Cake Murder) thinks there is something suspicious about the accident. Save some time to drool over the delectable recipes.

Book description

When Hannah Swensen hears that the Cinnamon Roll Six jazz band will be playing in Lake Eden, Minnesota, she bakes up a supply of their namesake confections to welcome them. But tragedy strikes when their tour bus overturns - and keyboard player Buddy Neiman's minor injuries turn deadly serious when someone plunges scissors into his chest.
