Rated 4 out of 5 by WP86 Would be better with an HDMI input or Component.
Does what its supposed to do.......I guess politics and money from sources prevent allowing HDMI or component inputs.Shame when manufacturers yield to big cable outfits and others.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Yamoone I returned it. I guess I was spoiled by the Toshiba that I have. I had High expectations. For most people I would think this machine acceptable. However, It does not have a program guide, which I feel is very important. If I don't find another brand with a program guide I may purchase this one again.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Piffery1 Poor tuner
Would receive only 12 out of 31 available digital cable tv channels. It did get all the analog channels but not with as good a picture as my Sony Bravia TV. I could not determine if I had a defective unit or if it's a generic problem. I thought this recorder had NTSC(analog)/ATSC(digital over the air) and ATSC-QAM(digital cable) receiving capabilities but perhaps not. I returned the recorder to Walmart for refund because it did not meet my expectations.
Rated 3 out of 5 by 43BP Did Not Meet My Expectations
I think the DVD player works very good, put the Tuner has limitations. It will only record channels 2 thru 99, all of the channels over the number 100 can not be recorded on this DVR. This is dissappointing. The cable company DVR that I have in the family room will record all channels, however, I have to pay a monthly fee for that service. I was hoping that this DVR would resolve that problem, it does on a limited basis.
Rated 2 out of 5 by roughluck All facets of the opreation of recording in both HDD and disc modes work very well, but the sound, while watching live television after a few minutes, gets garbled and like a echo chamber, almost unintelligable...Also, from time to time, when starting an operation or ending one, a popping sound is heard...If these problems don`t end soon, I`ll have to return this unit..I`l probably try again as no other review mentions sound problems..Hope the second try is the charm...
Rated 5 out of 5 by arry7 Everything works as described
My recorder was ordered Friday and arrived Tuesday (Free shipping) - Very happy. The recorder is performing very satisfactorily - everything works as described. Some reviews stated the manual has errors and is hard to understand. I found no errors so far, but it's good I am technical and have figured out everything so far by reading instructions and "playing" with the unit's controls. I have another DVD recorder & there are similarities, which helps. There are some features I would improve, but since this unit seems to be "the only game in town", I'm satisfied with the way it is. Dubbing from hard drive to DVD works great, also using the hard drive to "time shift TV viewing" and to pause live TV. I have been using this unit for a couple of weeks now, so cannot comment on long-term performance. Also, I never buy extended warranties, but since this is the only product of its kind, I DID buy the extended warranty for it.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Robtz1 Very Good unit with a Digital Tuner
I really like the fact that it has a digital tuner, and a hard drive.Once you get the hang of the operation and it's features,it is simple to use.Recording is a breeze.I am already thinking of the model with the 1 tb hdd.
Rated 4 out of 5 by smiley62377 Easy hookup and programming
I bought this unexpectedly when my current DVD recorder ceased working. I bought it, picked it up in-store, and had it connected a day before I went on vacation and it was easy. I love the HDD option to record because then I don't have to worry about the fuss with DVDs if I choose not to and both ways are easy to program and then watch and delete later.
Rated 5 out of 5 by ZXCVBNMKLP Just what we wanted--no more, no less.
We wanted to record TV shows to watch later. This recorder does an excellent job. It requires no tapes or disks. Perfect for our needs. It records on a hard drive.
Rated 4 out of 5 by robinblueyes7 does the job
cutting down my 200.00 cable bill was a must bought this machine and set up was easy records well works just like the old vcr machines as far as programming it but its easy and worth the savings off cable dvr service. went to basic cable and this works just fine when youre a "local station" tv watcher like we are. dvds play in very nice picture quality taped programs not so much but watchable. we use it lightly to tape the odd show on another channel while watching another so picture quality isnt high on our list anyways and as I said its presentable. if u want to cut back big time on your cable dvr service I would recommend this machine.

This my second Magnavox DVR, since my first one froze up after a short cucuit in the house. Since the previous DVR was out of warranty, I ordered a second one to replace it. This DVR is just right to time shift programming. It's easy to program and play back. The quality of the picture and sound is just as good as the original broadcast. I rarely make DVDs from the recording, when I did the directions were fairly intuitive. The cost is about $330, but there are no other fees or contracts to worry about. If this unit works in your system, I think it's a pretty good purchase.
Rated 5 out of 5 by mishtabula My old VCR died and I wanted to move up to a DVR, but didn't want to pay a monthly fee. This unit does it all. I am very impressed.
Rated 5 out of 5 by woodbe Excellent Product!
Digital Tuner that makes your TV picture better on Cable or Satellite.
The only DVR with no subscription monthly fees.
Takes sometime to get use to the remote and programming.
The cost is worth it.
Very happy with the purchase.
You can record and watch other channels at the same time.
Seamless execution of programming.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Daveybis Does alot
So far very interesting product. Have alot to learn but yet very easy to use. Quick programming.

I LOVE IT! You can pause & rewind Live TV, Or just Record your favorite shows if you want. HUGE amount of Storage Space too. You DO NOT need a Cable Box or Direct TV for this Item. It Took just a little time to set it up & a couple of days to really learn how to use it. But its Worth it. I did however swap out the remote control though, Logitech Harmony 300 remote control Works Great, You Just plug it in any PC, & Its an Easy Set-up Remote Control for any device. They provide all the codes too for any device.

It's very cool but Very Simple. It is a working DVR and DVD player and Burner. And it works Great. I used to be a Satellite customer and that DVD was simple and awesome. This one is not as simple but is awesome. It is closely compared to a VCR of days gone by, except now you can burn your recordings onto a DVD if you want. I Love this thing. And Pausing live tv is well worth it.
Rated 4 out of 5 by lovewalmart555 Wonderful product
After discovering I could not buy a Magnavox 457 VCR/DVD recorder with a tuner (which was a great product, but they decided to discontinue it) I was at a loss to record my programs. I am old and not up on electronic devices, and do not like change. I decided to buy this. We only have an outside antennae.. When I hooked it up it records wonderfully. Good picture and everything. Instructions were easy to follow. I just love it. Would recommend it to anyone who likes to watch one program while recording another.
Still would like to see a VCR recorder with a tuner. Are you listening Magnavox?
Rated 5 out of 5 by safetyt Records to DVD & Hard Drive w/Tuner and COAX Input
This unit has Coax input with Upconverting, tuner, DVD recorder and as a Bonus for the price a 320GB Hard Drive HDD.
Easy to hookup and start recording to DVD or HDD. The DVD recording is almost High Definition and HDD is even better
Works great with Dish...other reviews stated the unit can record a show while you watch another...but that's with cable
Magnavox/Funai-Get the Extended Warranty
You have to point the remote directly at the unit and don't be too far away
Rated 4 out of 5 by brokerman Great Product
I have had this HDD DVD Recorder for just a short time but it seems to be a very good choice. Setup was very easy and it is performing well. One drawback for some might be that the remote has no controls for the TV. I am thinking of buying a second one for use with another TV. I wish they were available in the stores so you could see them up close and personal before making a purchase.
Rated 5 out of 5 by blg105 This equipment is exactly what we were looking for and more. I hope you keep offering. Great useful product.
Rated 5 out of 5 by OldRadioTech I purchased this recorder in Oct-2012 and this one works much better than the Toshiba DVR670KU I bought in Jan-2011. Once you program the shows you want to record, you can forget it; no need to remember to turn the recorder on and set the timer, then remember to turn the timer off and recorder back off after it is finished recording your show.
Would heartily recommend this product.
Rated 5 out of 5 by jim1976 This device is Great!
We had been looking for over a year for a DVD/HDD recorder with a digitial tuner. Absolutely no one sells them anymore until we came accross this one. I just wanted to record regular TV and didn't want to pay a monthly fee for a service. The recordings look great and there is plenty of space on the hard drive to record many hours of shows. We had a DVD recorder with a digital tuner that broke but this one is so much better. I don't have to worry about how much space is left on the DVD when recording a program.
Rated 5 out of 5 by HanginInThere Exactly what I've been looking for
I spent the last few years looking for a DVR that doesn't require a subscription to any provider. Until I found this unit my 1996 VCR limped along while I held out for a new unit (with a built in tuner) I could use the same way. Finally Magnavox came through. So far I am thrilled with my purchase. It has features I may never use but it was easy to set up and learn to use for my simple purposes. So much better than the VCR ever was, because the hard drive can hold way more recordings and allows many many more recording settings. Important for me to make this purchase was a review for the unit by some guy who really understood the features and described them well. Otherwise, I might not have realized this unit was for me. I thought about getting the higher memory (I got the 320) but for my purposes this is just what I need. Thank you Walmart and Magnavox!
Rated 5 out of 5 by SuperDthe1st Best DVR Deal Available
I got rid of my satellite subscription due to cost. I missed be able to watch shows on my own schedule. I was very happy to find this product. I use it to record off air HDTV broadcasts and play them back when I want to watch them. The unit works great and except for some minor quirks is easy to program. For the price and capabilities this unit can't be beat. And no monthly subscription!
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ushld This recorder is so nice.
We purchased a previous model over 2 years ago and it has been great, so, we bought this one for another TV. We don't use all the features, but, mostly record TV shows to the hard drive and play movies that we rent. We are very satisfied with both machines so far. It's great to watch one program, while recording another.

This is one of the few DVD burners left on the market with a builit-in digital TV tuner. You don't need an external source for your video input. If you have basic cable, you just plug the coax cable into the back. It's nice to be able to record your favorite HD network shows in anamorphic widescreen onto DVD so you can save them on a stable medium and easily share them with friends. I didn't really think I needed the DVR (hard drive) part of the machine, though it's handy being able to quickly record stuff to disc and then later burn it to a DVD. The menus are a bit clunky, though I really am still just learning how to use all its functions. I've read that the individual components (DVD drive and hard drive) are easily replaceable, though I hope it doesn't ever come to that (at least not soon). It's a pretty cool little machine overall.
Rated 5 out of 5 by edguessd hello i love these recorders so now i i have a total of 3 of them. i only use 2 at a time. they are much better then recording.on dvd. i use 2 of them every day. the oldest one is in storage for now. i dreamed about a recorder like this for more then 20 years. i use a antenna only. i like the older remote better. the last one i got the remote is like the 500 gb the seconded one i got .
Rated 5 out of 5 by Grannyat Great HDD/DVD Recorder
I now have 3 Magnavox HDD & DVD Recorders (a 160GB HD, a 500GB HD, and this 320GB HD) and I am totally pleased with every one of them. Setup and recording are a snap, and picture quality is fantastic on all speeds down to LP. Below that, the picture can get a little grainy. I have all three set up in the same location, which can be a problem since the each remote control will also control all 3 units. I found a good hint online that solves this problem. Use one of those old, black plastic VCR boxes; cut them so that you can place one end under the unit above and the rest of the box will hang down and cover the front of the one below it. Don't make them too wide or they'll prevent your DVD tray from opening. Several others have posted fantastic technical information reviews, so I won't duplicate their very detailed and accurate posts. I highly recommend this product!
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rubdr Very easy to use
Have the Magnavox DVD Recorder/VHS recorder too. This unit has the tuner as well. Fantastic and easy to use & set up. Would highly recommend.

I would recommend it .
