Reviews

Review by Library Journal (2012-09-15)

In the 23rd Stone Barrington mystery, the attorney takes a backseat to his best friend Dino Bacchetti of the NYPD, who is knowingly dating a serial killer, and his young colleague Herbie Fisher, who is asked to look after the interests of a spoiled sociopath, arguably the most repellent character in this series. After considerable treading of water, the various strands of the plot are resolved in two well-handled action scenes. That none of the dangers faced here is regarded as more serious than finding a place to have dinner after the closing of Stone's beloved Elaine's is part of the charm of these tales.

Verdict: As always, Tony Roberts offers an inspired reading, supplying nuances for each protagonist. Although some readers may find the story slow to evolve, fans of the series should enjoy.

Book description

When a hedge-fund billionaire hires Stone Barrington and Holly Barker to track down his missing son it seems like a fairly open-and-shut case for the private eye and the CIA agent. But they never expected that a simple missing-persons case would lead to one of the most wanted men in the world as they come face-to-face with a dangerous international criminal from their past.
