Movie Description

The following content was provided by the publisher.

This Hammer Studios classic is far closer to the letter (and spirit) of the Bram Stoker novel than the Bela Lugosi version of Dracula. The premise finds the infamous count journeying from his native Transylvania to England, where he takes a headfirst plunge into the London nightlife, and begins to rack up victim after victim. In the process, Dracula also runs into his arch-nemesis, Van Helsing (Peter Cushing), which ignites a battle of wills between the two. Heavily censored in Britain when released (with the goriest moments truncated), this outing was restored by the BFI in the mid-late 2000s. It put Lee and Cushing on the map and paved the way for many sequels starring the two, and for many non-Dracula follow-ups with these actors as well. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide.

Customer Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5★ by 3reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Great Movie, Great DVD Horror of Dracula is a classic of horror cinema, and quite possibly Hammer Film's best feature. Christopher Lee is an uncanny Dracula, and Peter Cushing is the finest Van Helsing of them all. A well-directed and expertly written horror gem, and all the better because it's a world removed from modern, trendy vampire films like Twilight. A great gothic nightmare, scary but classy as well. 09/05/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Thoroughly enjoyable Horror of Dracula might be considered an old movie by today's standards, but it is still worth seeing. It has nice dialogue, acting, and plenty of suspense. While some might consider the movie too simple, I took great pleasure in its simplicity and straightforwardness. If you are looking for an enjoyable horror flick, do not pass up this one. Other movies you may want to consider: The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), The Abominable Snowman (1957), The Mummy (1959), The Curse of the Werewolf (1961), The Phantom of the Opera (1962), The Gorgon (1964), and The Skull (1965). I have not seen any of those, but I might eventually purchase them. 05/10/2013
