I have Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 SP3. Can I upgrade to Windows 7 Home? Will it slow down my system and is it even worth it?

    • A. You need to look into the windows 7 system requirements and if your system can run it, it is well worth it. It will however require a clean install of Windows 7 which will format your hard drive before the installation. This is not an upgrade. Back up any important files before you install this software.

    • A. You probably want to check to see if your PC's Hardware meets the Windows 7 requirements. Cut and paste the Microsoft link below and download the Advisor to see if your system can handle Windows 7. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor

    • A. Yes you can, but keep in mind, you will have to reinstall everything on your current system. if you dont want to go through all of that, then purchase the full price version of win7 upgrade.

    • A. What you need is Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. To know if it will slow down your computer I would need to know the specs of your machine. Is it worth it? Does your computer do everything you want it to do? If yes keep what you have.

    • A. What Walmart is selling is a full version of windows 7. It is not an upgrade. First thing you have to determine is will your computer work with windows 7. Meaning will the computer work with 32 bit and 64 bit configuration. Some of your 32 bit programs may not work in 64 bit. If you do not know, or do not know how to figure it out, you will need the expertise of a geek or a call to the maker of your computer.

I bought Windows 7 Home Premium w/SP1 64-bit-System Builder License and Media from Walmart to replace the Windows 8.1 software I had bought on eBay. Win 8.1 would not install on my 2008 vintage Mac Pro 3.1 running Mountain Lion, and I'm probably lucky that it wouldn't, based on the scathing user reviews I read later. Anyway, Windows 7 installed easily and works amazingly well with Parallels 9 in a virtual machine on my Mac. It allows me to use Quicken for Windows rather than the inferior Quicken for Mac, as well as other Microsoft programs. I am also happy that it has not bothered me with the huge number of annoying "security updates" I expected, based on my continuing experience with a couple of PCs with the regular Win 7 Home Premium operating system. Maybe there's something special about the "64-bit-System Builder" version that is worth considering for your PC. I definitely recommend the System Builder version of Windows 7 for installation on a Mac, along with Parallels 9, if you want to create a virtual PC on your Mac.

I'm sure this would be ideal use for those who may have purchased a newer PC with say windows 8 and prefer a simpler older version of windows that is still supported by Microsoft. I cannot say anything bad against this product other than i had to return it for refund as I have an older PC and will now be purchasing the version with 32 bit instead of this one which is 64. It was a friend who is a little more knowledgeable than myself of PC. My only regret is that I did not discuss this before making the purchase. The store from which I made the purchase was so kind to fix this problem with no hassle or criticism. After all, we are all human and make a mistake once in awhile. Kudos to Microsoft for having a better alternate that will work for me and is still supported when my XP is no longer supported and I need this upgrade so I can continue to use the programs and hardware I still love and am used to.

I bought Windows 7 system builder because Apple doesn't support Windows 8 yet (or at least not a specific Bootcamp & Mac drivers for WIndows 8). I followed the Bootcamp directions along with some other blogs about how much space to partition for installing PC games (went with 100Gbt). Everything installed easily on my MBP and now I'm running both OS smoothly. There's also some extra tips to read available on blogs, like how to remove Hybernate to free up a Gig or 2 and other items you'll never use on Windows if your primarily using the Mac OS for most of your operations. The only disappointment so far is I haven't been able to fully re-install my Office 2010 because it's a different computer. Guess my old disks only had 1 licensing agreement. Whatever, there's Google Docs now. Who pays for MS Office anymore?

..A Few Things to Remember About System Builder..

The MS System Builder Can Only be Installed on ONE PC Motherboard.., if you need to change the board.., you NEED to Call MS to reinstall the OS.., with a New Product Key... Also.., this OS has ZERO MS Support.., so if it Fails.., You are Solely Responsible in Terms of Fixing the OS Problem(s).., for you are the OS Support (i.e. System Builder)... The Full Version.., although Pricey.., can be Uninstalled and Reinstalled on ANY PC as Long as Only ONE PC is Running the License (i.e. Product Code or COA).., and it comes with both versions (32 - 64 bit).., but the Full has Full Support seeing they are in fact the System OS Maintainer/ OS Builder... The UPGRADE Version is just Like the Full Version.., EXCEPT You Need a Previous MS Windows OS Installed Previously... But Again.., can be used to Uninstall and Reinstall on ANY Computer.., as Long as it is Used on ONE PC at a time... SO in SUMMARY.., Windows 7 SYSTEM BUILDER is a One Time Use and was Supposed to be used for New System Builds for Minor System Builders... In fact.., HP, Dell, Asus, etc.., have pre installed OS which again is the "System Builder" OS... So you Know... The Best Upgrade is the Actual Upgrade Version if you Already Own MS WINDOWS... But if you are upgrading mpotherboards, changing pc's, etc.., the Full Version is the Way to Go! System Builder is also Great for MAC Users!

I bought to upgrade a XP 32 bit system to Win7 64 bit, worked great. I got some more life out of an older machine. Go to Microsoft and print out the instructions for Upgrading XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. Upgrade your RAM to 4 gigs if possible.
