It has all the features of larger bikes, so your budding freestyler can practice like the big boys, even if he's not quite ready for a 20 inch bike. This 18 inch bike features front pegs, a durable steel frame and a single speed design. It also has a padded seat for optimum comfort, even during long rides. Steel rims and handlebar provide these boy bikes with training wheels with more stability and a stylish look. A real solid bike. Had it delivered to a vacation house and now our son wants to ship it back home cause its better than the one we have there. It includes both handbrakes (which are easy to squeeze) and coaster brakes. Great styling (love the red rims on the tires). Both kickstand and training wheels if still needed. Has those front wheel stunt bars too (although young kids don't need those!). A nice 18" bike like this can be hard to find - sometimes 20" is still too big and 16" too small. The store will assemble, but if you do it you'll need a phillips screwdriver (just for the reflectors), hex keys (allen wrenches) to tighten the handlebars, a pair of pliers for the brake cables (vise grips are great here) and wrenches (a small crescent wrench is great) for the tires, pedals, and handlebar stem. It is partially assembled out of the box and goes together fast. (A good thing to also do is loosen and align the brake pads with the tire rims and then tighten again.) Don't forget to also pick up a bike helmet and add a little bell for safe riding. If there is a chance of riding at dusk or on roads add some high vis LED lights too.

I read and re-read all of the reviews on this bicycle. With the majority of the reviews being good, I shrugged off the poor reviews and purchased it anyway. Well that turned and bit me. There were a small number of reviews that said the front forks came bent, the tire would not fit properly. Not only was this true for me, I had to take the front fork off and put it in a vice to open it enough for the BENT front rim to fit. The rear rim was also bent when it arrived. I took them both to my local bike shop, had the rims straightened ($10) and replaced the "freestyle" style tires with ones that actually gripped dirt ($40). The rear wheel bearings also seem to add too much friction, instead of free spinning it seems to not spin very fluidly. Putting it all back together was simple, the brakes are tricky to realign and tough to get a proper fit. My son likes the frame color and with the new tires and 2 hours of dad fix-its, it seems much much bettter than when it came. So be aware, either spend the extra money and get a better bike (even though KENT is a decent brand), or realize you get what you pay for.

We bought this bike online after much comparison shopping for our son's 7th birthday and had it shipped to and assembled at the Monroe,NY Walmart. They did a great job putting it together and the bike meets all of our expectations-great quality, very sturdy, nice looking boys bike! My son loves his new bike! Overall - a very positive buying experience!

    • A. It has both handbrakes and coaster (pedal backwards) brakes. The handbrakes are small and easy enough for our 6 1/2yr old, but 18" may be big for a 5yr old. Depending on his height and how far along he is on learning you may want to start with a 16" bike.

    • A. well my grandson is five, and he fits just right, i guess it really depends on how big he is, if he is on the bigger side, yes, this is perfect, but if he is on the smaller side, i am not for sure on that

    • A. If it doesn't list Coaster brakes in the product description likely it's handbrakes. Most 18" bikes I've looked at have hand brakes.

    • A. Yes, as long as your 8 year old does not exceed the weight limit for the bike, it would be fine. I think it has a 75 pound limit, but check online. There are very little differences between this 18 inch bike and the 20 inch bike, but this one comes with training wheels and two types of braking systems for learners. If you buy this for an 8 year old, he will only use it for a year. Once his legs grow the muscles needed to pedal up to speed you can take off the training wheels and learn to balance within a week or less. You can buy him a fancy bike after he has used this one for a year. This is a great starter bike.

    • A. the bike is small enough to learn how to ride a 2 wheeler. Kids feel more in control..However, once he learns on this, an 8-9 year old will out grow it almost immediately. look for a 20 inch bike and buy separate training wheels

    • A. Definitely. It comes with training wheels if you need them. And both handbrakes and coaster brakes. If you can, have him stand over someone elses 20" bike (the most common bigger kid bike size) to check the size, but we found that a 16" bike was too small and a 20" bike too big.
