This movie Blast and Whisper is the very first effort to portray the life of the prophet Elijah in film since the Sins of Jezebel movie of 1953. It is a low budget effort, and should only be compared to other low budget productions. If you are expecting major Hollywood CGI and A-list actors, then this is not the film for you. However, if your empty space on your bible movies shelves has a gaping hole where the story of Elijah should go, then this is a good DVD to get. The Bible itself begins this story with Elijah's utterance of the curse of a drought upon the entire land. Because of this starting point, then obviously the movie either had to also start with the punishment without depicting why the punishment came to be proclaimed, or else the film-maker had to make up an explanation for this first biblical curse from Elijah. In the case of Blast and Whisper, the film-maker decided to attempt to fill in the backstory before reaching the curse. If you abhor the idea that the film should try to backfill the details instead of starting right off with the curse, then again this is not the film for you. However, if you let the film tell its own story, then despite the immediate impression at the start that we are nowhere near the chapter and verse of the Bible, you will eventually be rewarded because the movie does join the flow of scripture gradually. In fact, it is a delight to see how the "unbiblical" quality of the opening seems to flow into the biblical facts and verses, so that you are left with the impression that you first thought it was an imaginary tale, very loosely based on scripture, only to discover by the time the movie finishes that you have just found yourself in the bible almost without knowing it! It's clever IMO.

Since 1953 first Elijah movie released

Blast and Whisper dares to defy the drought of bible movies that have been sustained for a number of years, with the short exception of a couple years in the wake of The Passion of the Christ. As another review points out, Elijah movies are hardly coming out every other year! In some sense, beggars can't be choosers. This particular movie had a pitifully low budget. In fact, I understand the company that made it sank just about all their funds into the making of it. For those who find its production values objectionable, I would ask are they comparing it to The Passion of the Christ, Inception, and For Greater Glory? Such films, with A-list actors, had far greater resources poured into them! Obviously they are going to outclass Blast and Whisper. But Blast and Whisper actually makes good use of the scarce resources it has. The lead actor, Mehran Haq, definitely looks the part. Libertad Green does a respectable job portraying the famous villain Jezebel, the vortex of the evils in the story. If you look at the movie's explosion that flies down from heaven, can you find another microbudget movie with better practical effects? Or the cave scene visual effects? These are seldom if ever seen in a microbudget bible movie. In addition, the movie is original in a way that applies the ancient Bible story to today's world, where God is at best only "half remembered." It's not the best movie I've ever seen in my life, not by a long shot, but if you let it unfold on its own terms, you will be rewarded. For its pitiful budget, this movie is POWERFUL. In fact, if you think of the cheapest movies released to wide distribution, Blast and Whisper in my opinion is probably the very best of the best! (Incidentally, the studio is NOT what's shown on this WalMart page, a Team? The film production was actually from Breadwin Productions. Great job, guys, with pocket change!!!)

Powerful Bible Movie for Miniscule Budget Level

Please be forewarned: If you don't care for micro budget movies, or if you don't like Shakespeare -- in either case, you will probably not like this movie. This is definitely a micro budget movie. Also, the language is modelled on Shakespeare. If Shakespeare is not your cup of tea, then you probably should not buy this. However, if you are okay with a micro budget movie, and you are okay with the language you would hear in a Shakespeare play, then you should buy this movie. Concerned about the lack of rating? FYI this is because of some blood shown on camera, no other reason.

For no money good job

Contrary to the adverse reviews here, this movie Blast and Whisper is a genuine low budget movie and is deserving of respect. In the bible when Elijah appears and pronounces the curse upon the land, "No more rain, no more water unless I say so" basically, there are no verses before this clarifying what sparked Elijah to say this in the first place. Either a movie would have to jump in at Elijah's words and start with the punishment he pronounces for the sins of the pagans, which would probably precipitate even worse reviews here at Walmart's site, or the movie would instead have to do its best to draw from what happens later in the Book of Kings and make an educated guess about what angered Elijah and God. Blast and Whisper, again a *low budget* movie which some reviewers are treating as though it were not low budget (wow, this movie is low budget, let's criticize it for something that should be known up front), Blast and Whisper takes the second course and tries to inform us why Elijah was so angry with Jezebel and her disciples. Every word that is heard "whispered" (the voice of God, just like the still, small whisper in the cave is God's voice) is not made up words but taken straight from scripture or paraphrased from Scripture. Also the movie attempts to help us understand how Elijah gets the authority to pronounce a curse that God Himself will honor. This has never before been attempted. (And don't forget the only other bible movie of Elijah is Sins of Jezebel which is not low budget and is very old, black and white.) The only "departure" in the movie from the bible is the calling of God as the "Half Remembered." But isn't God today at best only half remembered? This one relatively minor "change" ties everything to the present day, 2014. I like the movie, because I know what a low budget movie is supposed to look like, contrary to some of the reviewers who expect CGI, top A-list talent, and other expensive features.

Low Budget bible movie meets expectations

Low budget movies can only do so much with what they've got. Blast and Whisper -- not an exception. Without access to A-list actors, expensive locations, CGI, and the rest of what you'd find in the most mediocre million dollar movie, Blast and Whisper makes rather good use of what meager resources it managed to scrounge together. The unique thing about it is that dialogue is written in Shakespearean English. This provides the sense that we are not hearing today's English. Few movies have given a period piece this kind of meticulous attention, including even the multimillion dollar ones -- which this movie should NOT be compared to! I really think the scene with the Prince of Omri on the horse (eventually descending from the horse) succeeds in this Shakespearean-Biblical world. It has a majesty that comes across. Everything in the movie could be improved, everything in ANY micro budget movie could be improved, but it would definitely have ratcheted up the cost I'm guessing half a million dollars just to accomplish the kinds of improvements that all micro-budget movies could improve with. I applaud the effort and meticulous care put into this movie under micro-budget conditions. Watch it: it makes you think.

Good movie but you must consider its meager budget

This was like a homemade video. Everything was TERRIBLE !!! I wish I could get my money back. This video went in the TRASH !!! Take it from me...DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM.

Worst Bible Version I have ever purchased.

The acting was bad! Hard to follow with the bouncy scenes- very boring. I also expected more.

THIS MOVIE DID NOT MEET MY EXPECTATIONS, I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN IT. IT WAS A VERY LOW BUDGET PRODUCTION FILM, IT HAD TOY BIRDS AND OBVIOUS WIGS ON THE ACTORS. BLOOD SCENES WERE OBVIOUS MAKEUP. MANY OF THE ACTORS WERE NOT CONVINCING; THEY TALKED LIKE THEY WERE READING, IT REMINDED ME OF A HIGH SCHOOL PLAY. SOME OF THE ACTORS WERE WITH A HAIRCUT AND CLEAN SHAVEN WHICH DID NOT REGARD BIBLICAL TIMES. THE PLOT WAS JUMPY AND THERE WERE CHARACTERS WHO WERE INTRODUCED WHO WERE NOT MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE. THE MOVIE DID NOT PUT EMPHASIS ON SOME PARTS OF ELIJAH AS THE BIBLE NOTED SUCH AS HIM STAYING WITH A WIDOW AND HER SON; IT JUST SHOWED HIM LOOKING AT A WOMAN SITTING BY A TREE AND THATS IT. SOME OF THE NAMES WERE CONFUSING SUCH AS QUEEN JEZABEL CALLED JAZZ. I HAVE SEEN AN OLD 15 MINUTE STORY OF ELIJAH THAT WAS BETTER THAN THIS 1 HOUR 13 MINUTE MOVIE. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE AT ALL.
