I initially bought this pot to use as a stock pot for making Vietnamese pho soup, which it worked flawlessly for. However, I had always wanted to make tamales, so since I now had a tamale steamer... more reason to give it a shot, right? It works absolutely perfectly. I've made two batches of tamales... both turned out awesome. No real issues with the pot. The glass lid is nice, the handles are covered so you can actually touch them during cooking without pot holders. The steamer tray stays put when it's in. All this for less than $20? It's a no-brainer.

A very nice looking pot, good for soups and cooking that involves a lot of liquid not solids because the bottom is not very thick so food can burn easily.

I am an employee at walmart and purchased this pot about 3 months and last tuesday night I made homemade chicken soup but i forgot the noodles so after dinner tuesday night I made three bags of noodles and added it to the pot of soup. The next day my wife want to have some soup for lunch and was hit by a horrible odor that smelled like something had died in the soup and the only thing I can think of is that something from the pot leached from the pot. Today I told my store manager of this and he was of no help in pulling these pots off the shelves until all the aluminum pots are tested for being safe to cook from

It's an inexpensive, light weight steamer/stock pot. It works very well for steaming. We did 2 lobsters as soon as we got it. Worked great. It did discolor inside, either from our water or the herbs I used. I don't know if a water/broth based stock or soup would do the same thing. It is too light weight to be used for any sauce or soup that's tomato based or thick.

    • A. There is a groove around the circumference of the pot that allows the steamer insert to rest on it. You wouldn't be able to pull the insert out of this pot if the water is still hot, because there aren't holes, handles or slots large enough to grab with tongs.

I'm looking for a pot to use on a glass stove top for water bath canning - but having a hard time finding one that is flat and not grooved on the bottom. Can you tell me if it is flat and approved for glass stove tops?
    by Laura 7/17/2014
    4 answers
    • A. Dear Laura, Yes, the bottom is perfectly flat except for the rounded corners around its circumference, which should not be a problem for your intended use. Whether is it "approved" for glass-top ranges, I don't know as I have always used gas-fired cooktops, but as a retired electrical engineer, I can't imagine that there would be any problem.
