Book Information

The following content was provided by the publisher.

When the rental house shared by chef Yolanda Garcia and her irrepressible aunt Ferdinanda is destroyed by arson, the pair moves in with cop-turned-PI Ernest McLeod. But then Ernest is shot dead and his house is set on fire, nearly killing Yolanda, Ferdinanda, and their good friend, Colorado caterer Goldy Schulz, along with nine beagle puppies that Ernest had recently rescued from a puppy mill.

Concerned for her friends, Goldy invites them to stay with her. But even her house isn't safe. After a failed break-in and the discovery of a second body, the intrepid Goldy decides to swap her chef's hat for a sleuthing cap. Now she's got to move fast because it's crunch time and a killer is getting dangerously close.

About the author

Biography of Davidson, Diane Mott

Diane Mott Davidson, best-selling mystery writer, was born in Honolulu. Davidson's mysteries center around the experiences of Goldy Bear, a divorced caterer who solves murders while also contending with her former husband, an abusive physician, and with raising her son in the community in which they all live. Each book also includes some of Goldy's menus and delicious recipes. Her novels include Catering to Nobody (nominated for the Anthony, Agatha, and Macavity awards for Best First Novel), Dying for Chocolate, Killer Pancakes, The Last Suppers, and The Grilling Season. Diane Mott Davidson was named the 1990 Writer of the Year for Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers and received the Anthony Award for Best Short Story in 1992.

Reviews

Review by Library Journal (2011-09-09)

Fans of Davidson's culinary mysteries featuring caterer Goldy Schulz will gobble up this 16th installment. Goldy, married to a detective in the Aspen Meadows, CO, sheriff's department, often finds herself involved in his cases. Here, her desire to help her friend and fellow chef Yolanda Garcia draws her into a murder and arson investigation. Barbara Rosenblat, a superlative and award-winning audiobook narrator, has voiced this and all other titles in the series. Recipes mentioned in the story are a staple of these books and generally top-notch, but the audio format makes their use difficult.

Verdict: Overall, Davidson's fans and all lovers of culinary mysteries will appreciate this audiobook.

["Davidson fans and readers who enjoy culinary cozy mysteries should this like title-maybe not love it but enjoy it", read the review of the New York Times best-selling Morrow Ac, LJ Xpress Review, 3/18/11.-Ed.] - Kristen L. Smith, Loras Coll. Lib., Dubuque, IA
