About the Album

Cold took a six-year break after the release of 2005's A Different Kind of Pain but they did not use the half-decade hiatus as an opportunity to rethink their musical outlook. They may be a little older and a little slower, two elements that combine on the power ballad "American Dream," which sounds disarmingly similar to DAUGHTRY, but Cold remain faithful to their post-grunge alt-metal legacy on Superfiction. After the bluster of the opening "Wicked World" fades away, Superfiction settles into a deliberate churn, with neither the music nor the message rising above a simmer. It's an album to wallow in, provided that you share some sensibilities with Scooter Ward, who is maturing slightly -- it's evident in his topics and tempos -- yet he's still compelled to filter all his emotions through the same dour metallic strain of his adolescence, a habit that keeps Superfiction in line with Cold's previous albums yet seals it away from any potential new listeners. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Rated 5 out of 5★ by Amazing album! I love this new Cold album, its probably the best one they've made so far. After 6 years not working on music this album is over my expectations! I love it and recommend it to everyone!! 12/18/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 Super! If I had enough money I would buy everyone in the world a copy of this cd! Haha. It's so Amazingly put together, and has a touch of "OLD COLD" in it, as well as a hint of TKATS, and def has elements from every previous COLD Album. I have had it since this CD since it was released, and I still listen to it daily! I am so impressed with the beauty that this album possesses! 10/12/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by The Wait Was Worth It So it had been 6 years since A Different Kind Of Pain was released, and 6 years later Cold still amazes me. I will start off by saying this albums concept is a new approach for Cold, but it doesn't take away from the band still being Cold. The concept of this album is Scooter(the lead vocalist of Cold) writing fictional stories, and when added to the wonderful music the album comes out amazing. The first song, "Wicked World" which is the first single, and also the first music video for the album starts off wonderfuly with a heavy feel, and tells the story of a king who cheats on the queen with a mistress, and then the mistress kills the king. The second song, "What Happens Now" is about being a super hero, and the troubles that come with it. This song is also going to be on the soundtrack for the new spider man movie. "American Dream" is a song about an actress who realizes all she needs is right at home. This song also has a very catchy line that says,"Now the stars don't shine in hollywood" and that lyric easily gets stuck in your head. The album continues telling stories about a musical world to a song about a "Park"(The Park is my favorite song off of this album). Is it still Cold.....YES, and this album is wonderfuly constructed, and if you love Cold I suggest you pick this album up. Simply Amazing!!!!!!!-b- 08/13/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by So Worth the Wait! After disbanding and reuniting, Cold has moved on to release what is perhaps their most powerful record to date. It shows the band's musically refinement and progression with a sound that is harder and more polished. I highly recommend it for any and every post-grunge fan! 07/27/2011
