I assembled my Coleman 12-by-10-foot Hex Instant Screened Canopy by myself by lifting it slowly from the center and gradually spreading the legs out and had no trouble getting it together within a half an hour. The legs are very strong and lock into place with little effort. The dome shape seems to be much better with handling wind and rain as it barely ripples or moves on windy/rainy days. It does leak a little bit from the seam areas. I assembled mine next to my little house on concrete and have the cords (which are normally staked into the ground) tied around sand bags to weight it down and keep it secure. It has been assembled for over 1 week and has shown no signs of buckling or damage from several windy, heavy thunderstorms. I am very, very happy with it!

I have had several styles of tent style dinning canopy's. All usually took more than an hour to set up. The Coleman canopy was as easy to set up as advertised. We were up and set up in less than ten minutes. The other great feature is that all the screening, top cover and frame fit easily back into the carrying case.

Received in a timely manner after order. Took a little longer than just a few minutes to set it up, as the directions are not really user friendly, but between my husband and myself, we figured it out and managed to get it set up in about 1/2 hr. It's sturdier than I thought it would be, in part, I believe, to the screening which goes around the outside. I believe that helps provide a little extra stability. No, I'm sure it won't hold up to gusty, sustained winds, but for the few smaller storms we've had in our area recently, it's help up quite nicely. It is quite roomy, fitting two loveseats with a table comfortably, or 4 chairs and a table. We enjoy it first thing in the morning, or in the evening, while the sun is setting - a light breeze easily comes through the screening, but NO BUGS! That was the major contributing factor in my decision to purchase - the screening... It does provide shade from the sun, although it IS a screen. It's not going to keep all the sunlight out... And, it protects from rain, to a degree (again - it's screened)....

Love it! Put on deck that takes a lot of heat...so far no bugs and zero problems! Takes wind gusts rather well! So glad I bought this! Enjoying a hot deck that used to be unbearable during the summer months in Maine!

Shelter was easy to set up. first time took my wife and I about 20 minutes, The frame is solid and well built. The canopy top is thin but strong, I would suggest sealing the seams with tent seam sealer, the screen is well made and goes on very easy. Took longer to stake it out than to put it up. We also had some problems with spiders and bugs coming in where the screen meets the canopy. Solved that problem with sticky velcro. The first night up we had thunder storms with wind and heavy rain. The shelter never moved , it is tougher than it looks. Plan on leaving this up all summer long and only drop it down if sever storms are coming. I only wish colman offered a replacement canopy for it. Just in case of holes for hail or so. we are very happy with this shelter. On evening we sat in it during a gentle rain. It was dry. We are very happy with our purchase and if anything happens to this one I will buy another just like it.

    • A. Yes. I was able to pull the legs out by just going around and around for a bit. Then I got into the middle of the dome area, got down on one knee and held the frame above my head slowly, which caused the roof frame to open fully. Then (while the legs are still only 4' tall and not yet extended) I started putting the roof on starting with the side facing the direction of the wind. After the roof was on I extended the legs, one at a time (criss-crossing) until they were all fully extended. The rest was fairly easy. I almost asked a complete stranger for help, but I am glad I didn't. I had no problem putting it up on my own. Also, it goes up slowly the first time you assemble it, but I am sure it assembles much more quickly after a bit of practice.

    • A. I needed two people to pull the framing apart to open it, to form the perimeter. Perhaps one person could do it if that person found something to hook an opposite leg of the frame on [or tie it to], so one could pull the framing open from the opposite side single-handedly? But, whatever you hooked it on would have to remain stationary, resisting your pulling, so the framing opens up. The other difficulty was getting the canopy over the dome, once it was partially set up. I needed the help of another person to do that--the dome was too high. I haven't tried it, but if the canopy dome was put on before the frame was lifted very high, perhaps one person could do it? Other than those two aspects of the process, I found the rest easy for one person to accomplish.

    • A. It is free standing. But, it has a line from each upper corner that you can attach to a stake in the ground. Each vertical pole also has about a 2 X 3 inch flat piece of metal ["foot"] with a hole in it, that one can use to drive a narrow metal stake through or lay a rock on. Those flat pieces extend inside the structure on the ground. I've placed mine on a stone patio, close to our house. But, I've put heavy rocks on some of those small "feet" on the poles and I've staked lines from three of the upper corners to our nearby lawn. I hope that is adequate if a strong wind comes up.

If a rain storm hits will everything in side end up wet!

    • A. We had rain on it. The stone patio floor inside it showed a little moisture as much as 6 inches in from the screen, but that only appeared on some sides of it. And the screening got a little wet, particularly near the bottom. But, that was it. We didn't consider that a problem at all. The table and other items inside were fine.
