I got a chance to play with this oven and it was a lot of fun. I'm glad they have updated it and it no longer uses a light bulb, which gives some more authenticity to the whole experience. It's pretty neat to see a young kid able to make some tiny cookies and cupcakes all on their own. I was impressed that they were making something as fancy as red velvet cupcakes! The one downside to the whole experience was that they don't give you that much mix, but it's easy enough to buy more. I see that you can buy a mix to make pizza which looks great!

As a lifelong Easy Bake Oven Fan (I still have the cupcake pan from when I was seven!), I was so excited to hear that the Easy Bake Ultimate Oven had come out, especially since it has its own heating element, like a real oven, so no more light bulbs. The Easy Bake Ultimate Oven is geared for tween girls and has a purple, modern design that my pre-teen daughters loved. They don't use the real oven by themselves yet, so they really enjoyed having the chance to cook all by themselves. It comes with mixes for red velvet cupcakes (with frosting and sprinkles) and chocolate chip cookies. Those two treats are my girls' favorites, so they were a big hit here. A couple of new things that the Easy Bake Ultimate Oven has is a larger cooking area inside of the oven and larger baking pans -- a six count cupcake pan (vs. four for the older models) and bigger rectangular pan, too. My girls could pretty much handle everything themselves, with the illustrated instructions guiding them along. They mixed up the cake batter and put it in the cupcakes liners (included) and then baked them. They watched the clock so that the cupcakes would be cooked just right. They had fun frosting them and putting the sprinkles on, and really had fun eating them! Another new addition with the Easy Bake Ultimate Oven are the savory snacks, like pizza and pretzels. I really liked that they offer those mixes since it gives some extra variety, in addition to the sweets. Hasbro has also come up with some other cute ideas, like the chocolate and cinnamon sugar Dippers or the adorable Checker Cake.

This was a great purchase. I ordered it and picked it up at the store. Worked out great with no problems at all. I will do that again. The oven is fun and I don't know who is having more fun the grandkids or the big kids. LOL I just wish the mixes for the oven were cheaper. I did price this oven other places and Walmart had the best price. Hands down. Thank you for the great experience and the great price.

My g-daughter loves to cook but it can get very expensive buying the mixes. Is it really worth paying all that money for the oven if you can only use the mixes that come with the oven. Please help b-4 I buy, because we can't afford to keep buying all the mixes just so she can bake!

    • I used the refrigerated choc chip cookie dough with last year's version of the Easy Bake Oven and they turned out fine. We cooked them 6-8 minutes and it worked!

    • Go to Amazon.com to get the mixes. They are all under $1.00 each. I purchased cake mix, cookie mix as well as pretzel. It wouldn't hurt to try your home recipes just remember you are not using a 350 degree oven.

    • my daughter uses regular cake or muffin mixes, but you just have to mix up the batter and set some aside in the refridgerator as it make more than necessary.

    • Hello, To answer your question, YES, you can use betty crocker cake mix or prerolled cookie dough. My daughters and I share a mix. For example: I will make two dozen cupcakes in the oven and let them bake and play with the rest of the batter in the Easy Bake Oven. This way, everyone in the house 'wins'.

    • Hello, I have this and instead of using a lightbulb like the older ones had (I never had one like that), this one works like a "mini" convection oven. So just like a real convection oven ,except smaller! I hope I helped and bye!

    • well i wondered the same thing at first before we bought it and the only thing i could think of is that it was a small microwave. however this is not the case at all. you cant really see into it that well to say for sure but the only other option that leaves since it is not a microwave is that it has a heating element inside of it similiar what an electric oven would have but on a much smaller scale. so yea the easy bake oven is now actually an oven. thanks. hope this was helpfull.

    • I'm sure it is some sort of heating element as the outside of the oven does get a little warm when baking. I don't believe it cooks by microwaves.

    • This particular model comes in the purple color. Older models that are mint green in color aren't for sale in traditional stores anymore which is a shame because girls aren't the only gender that like playing with these; however you can find the older models sometimes in original boxes on sites like ebay.

    • Yes, the prior version is mint green and cooks with a light bulb, not a heating element. Many stores still carry it, but it depends on what state you live in. Some states (CA for example) no longer carry the light bulb version of the Easy-Bake Oven because the plain, 100w light bulbs required for this toy are no longer sold there.
