Have been using Zero Water here in the mountains where our source is from an old gold & silver mine ... full of minerals. Although biologically OK as tested by the county they don't check for minerals. These filters are the SAME shape and content as the ones you buy as singles, two pack, or 4 pack in retail fancy packaging .... but you save several dollars on each filter. Comes in a plain box with separators, filters sealed, and labeled just as originals. Filtered water measured TDS result is really 000 & tastes excellent. These 8-pack filters are labeled to change when TDS reads 006 just like store bought. In the WM photo, looks like each filter has a base. That's a photo shadow. Filters are the same bottom screw-on filters with washer as bought retail. Note: and that is; what looked like moisture or droplets in the sealed wrappers. I called Zero Water customer support and was told that's normal and part of the manufacturing process as they pre-flush the filter to so you don't have to do a pre-soak as other filter types. Lady said it doesn't effect biological safety, and these have an indefinite shelf life. Opened one up - no odor, so ... as far as I'm concerned ... happy customer. Tip to extend the filter's use: So although it might seem troublesome, it's not, and saves money. Since our tap water reads 258 TDS from the water mine, I fill a Brita pitcher first which results in a TDS mineral reduction to about 125. (Brita filters cost considerable less than Zero, but are not as effective.) But I use that for coffee. Then fill again and use that to fill the Zero Water pitcher which is put in the frig for direct drinking water. Makes the Zero Water filter last twice as long, water tastes great (now double filtered) ... and again happy customer saving money.

I bought a small(8-cups) filter system from Costco. Then I found that Walmart is selling the filter for $79.95 for 8pk, it works out really well. My tap water is measured at about 300, so the filter life is pretty short. I remembered that it only lasted for about 10 days. This will cost me about 30/month, which is expensive enough to order a delivery of the 5 gallon water plan. So I decided to look for ways to extend filter life. Basically, what I need is to cut down my tap water water readout. If I can cut it down to 6, or 10, or even 100, instead of 300, I should be able to extend the filter life very long. Here is the trick: I found a 23cup system from craigslist for $15-20 (without filter). After I used up the filter to the readout at 6, I put that old filter in the small pitcher, and put a new one in the 23cup pitcher. Now I used the 8-cup pitcher to filter my tap water, which will cut down from 300 to 6, 10, 14, 20, ...120 after weeks. Then I poured the filtered water into the 23cup pitcher, and it filtered to 0 for very long time. When it reach 6, replace the 8-cup pitcher filter with the filter from 23 cup pitcher, and put a new filter into the 23cup pitcher. It is a new cycle. By this way, I can extend the filter life to more than 30 days. Now we are talking about a saving of $240/year. I also did some basic experiments on regeneration the filter. I think low PH may work whereas high Salt to washoff the accumulated dirt did not work very well due to the difficulty to wash off the salt from column. I did not spend much time to find out regeneration.

I've been using the zero water filtration system (countertop dispenser) for 6 months now. It makes brewed coffee taste excellent, is healthier to give to my dog who has failing kidneys, and makes tap water taste great. Before using this, I bought deerfield spring water, and since using zero water filtered water, bottled water just doesn't taste good anymore. The filters last about one month, with everyday use (brewing coffee, dogs water, and drinking water). Also, you can go online and print out $5 coupons from zerowater.com.

On our trips to L Vegas, we pack our Zero water filter. We used to pack another well-known filter, but that filtered water read 100-150 on a new filter (unfiltered: 400+ in Vegas). The Zero water filter gave us "0" readings for 4-5 trips of 5 days each! It really is great. Back in Hawaii one filter will last about 4 months with use every day.

We've now used 2 different filters and BOTH do not percolate water through the filter. Only a little trickles through and then stops filtering the water. Customer service suggested that we "burp" the filter because air may have gotten into the filter. We did that twice to no avail and now the second filter is doing the same. Like many other readers stated, the water tastes great for a short time and then gets a foul odor and taste to it well before the suggested replacement period. Zero Water blames our local water, but based on their ppm chart, we should be getting far more use out of each filter. This is the worst product ever and I'm done wasting my money on them.

I love my zerowater filter system. What I do not like is that the filters do not last very long before they hold the water and barely release it into the pitcher. This time I tried an experiment with RO water through the filters just to see if my tap water was possibly the culprit. I can honestly say that within 2 weeks the filters started doing the exact same thing of holding the water in. You will pick up an almost empty pitcher to put water into the top and it will be heavy as though it is almost full. I am not sure if it is an odd design that just needs some R&D or if it is intentional so that we keep buying filters quickly. I can say that it does make great tasting water for drinking straight from the pitcher or to be used in a coffeepot.

We like the filters but they are bit expensive unless you buy them in bulk. They work well and you know when the filters need to be changed as the water tastes like bad fish. However, you don't have to toss the water, just run it through a new filter and it's great.

    • A. Depends on how many dissolved solids you have in your water. In my previous location we had only 26 ppm and changed filters only 2 or 3 times per year. In my current location there are 160 ppm and we change filters every 6 to 8 weeks or so.

    • A. Depends on how many dissolved solids are in your water. In my previous house, where the well water was very clean but acidic and leached a little metal from the pipes, filters lasted 6 months. In my current home, where the water is 5 times more full of dissolved solids, they only last 2 months. But the water still comes out at zero.

    • A. Depends on two things how much water you drink and the quality of water you are starting with. U.S. avg. is 140-150ppm on their meter. Personally ours was 147ppm and it took it to zero and kept it there for 4 months before it read 001 month 5 we saw it jump to 003. Two weeks after that it was 005 and I changed the filter with one from a walmart 8 pack. We usually fill our 23 cup dispenser 2-3 times per day. So if you fill it less often or have lower than 147ppm water quality you will get more life out of one filter and less if you are on the higher side of those numbers.
