"unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it."
Revan: hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians--and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that's left are nightmares--and deep, abiding fear.
What exactly happened beyond the Outer Rim? Revan can't quite remember, yet can't entirely forget. Somehow he stumbled across a terrible secret that threatens the very existence of the Republic. With no idea what it is, or how to stop it, Revan may very well fail, for he's never faced a more powerful and diabolic enemy. But only death can stop him from trying.

Reviews

Review by Library Journal (2012-03-01)

LucasBooks breaks up the hundreds of titles in its Star Wars franchise into six distinct eras; Revan is from the oldest (the "Old Republic") and occurs about 3950 years before Episode IV. The plot focuses on Revan, a disgraced Jedi knight trying to get his life back on track after a stint as, of all things, a Sith lord on the dark side. Though Revan's memory has been wiped clean, glimmers of images lead him on adventures that include looking for the Mask of Mandalore on the planet Rekkiad; seeking clues on the spooky, lifeless planet Nathema; and then traveling to the planet Dromund Kaas for a face- off against the Emperor and an up-and-coming Sith named Scourge. With his usual excellence, narrator Marc Thompson masterfully differentiates among the multitude of characters, and while they wouldn't fit every fictive scenario, loads of sf sound effects tend fittingly to amplify the experience.

Verdict: Recommended for series fans, this might see unusually high circulation owing to its link with BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic massively mult i player online role-playing video game.

Book description

There’s something out there:

a juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic—

unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it.

Hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior—the man called Revan has been all of these. He left Coruscant a Jedi, on a mission to defeat the Mandalorians. He returned a Sith disciple, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was the loss of his memories. All that’s left are nightmares—and deep, abiding fear. What happened beyond the Outer Rim that Revan can’t quite remember or entirely forget? One thing he’s certain of: Something dark is plotting to destroy the very existence of the Republic. With no idea how to identify the threat, let alone stop it, Revan may be doomed to fail. For he’s never faced a more powerful and diabolic enemy. But only death can stop him from trying.

“An excellent book... [Karpyshyn] really draws the reader in.”—Eucantina

“Full of adventure, danger, and revelations.”—TheForce. Net
