Customer Product Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5★ by 1reviewer.
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Worthy of a remake today! I adore this fantasy movie. I would have given it 5 stars, were it not for the horrible soundtrack. It screams 1980's! It takes me out of the story at times. Fight scenes could have used a better choreographer, but other then that its so enjoyable. An evil bishop, a rather hamy John Wood falls in love with the beautiful Isabeau, played by Michelle Pfiffer at her most ethereal and angelic. But she wants nothing to do with him. She has lost her heart to the catain of the guards, Etienne Navvarre, played but Rutgar Hauer, sometimes referred to as the European Paul Newman. Besides Blade Runner, he is at his best here. The Bisop made a pact with the "dark one" to curse the lovers. By day Isabeau is a beautiful hawk, by night Navarre is a black wolf. They never touch in the flesh as humans, sometimes getting a brief glimpse of each other at sunrise and sunset. Mathew Broderick is a pickpocket, Phillipe "the mouse" Gaston. The only man to ever escape the dungeons of Acquila. Navarre sees him as a way to get back into the castle and finally kill the bishop.Phillipe has some very amusing conversations with God. But what drove me crazy about his character, is his perfect haircut. buzzer marks and all. Excuse me but this is the 14th century?! Leo McKern is wonderful as the drunken old priest, Imperius, who betrayed the lovers secret to the bishop. He claims God has given him the information needed to break the curse and redeem himself once and for all. Its such a good story, and its shot beautifully. Scenes of the hawk flying over water are lovely. Navarre's horse steals the scenes at times, what a majestic animal, aptly named Goliath. I truly hope for a directors cut of this one day. And please, someone do a remake! With the technology today, it would be amazing! 04/22/2012
