The thumb buttons take a bit to get used to - I'd suggest physically blocking the 1-9 on your keyboard with a strip of cardboard or something until you're accustomed to using the mouse, otherwise habit will stop from utilizing the thumb keys. Once you get used to it though, there's simply no going back. The Naga Epic is similar in shape to the Logitech G600. If you're on a tight budget, you may want to check out the Logitech, but the Naga has better hardware and MUCH better software: Razer Naga's macro writing software (Synapse) is far more intuitive than anything on the other mice I've used. The three interchangeable side panels are a brilliant feature that should honestly become the industry standard, because they make the mouse incredibly comfortable for almost any grip style or hand size. If you spend any amount of time PC gaming -especially on MMOs or other games that require you to use multiple keybinds (beyond movement and left/right click) you will definitely want to invest in one of these.

I used to own the Razer Naga before this came out and I remember looking around the internet for a gaming mouse to buy. All the other mice I would find would just have buttons in such odd places and all over the mouse which seems ridiculous to me. So, point one is that I like this mouse a lot because of the button location. A difference from the Razer Naga and Razer Naga Epic in relation to buttons is that, the Razer Naga had two buttons by the left clicker and in this mouse they are moved to behind the scroll wheel. Now, I know in the old mouse there was a double left click issue with the mouse after some time of use. What happens with this is that sometimes when you would left click it would click twice. I have not heard of this issue in the Razer Naga Epic so, I think this may have been why they changed the location of these two buttons. One thing to note about the thumb grid is that you most likely won't be able to use it very well at first. A lot of people blow this mouse off because they don't take the time to get used to it. Once you get using the thumb grid down pat, this mouse is amazing. Also, the left and right click buttons are very easy to press but not so easy you're going to accidentally press them all the time which can be very useful when gaming. Another thing I like about this mouse, that is different from the old one, is that this mouse can change to any color you want it to be or you can let it cycle through colors. You can also change the brightness level and have it set to dim if the mouse is on wireless mode and is running out of power. I've tried red on it to see if it turned out pink like everyone else's version of red and I can actually get it blood red while still being bright. So, I give this mouse two thumbs up for lighting and configuration options. Another thing to note is that the old mouse had the Razer logo light up where your palm would be over the mouse which was pointless because your hand would be on it most of the time. In this mouse, they got rid of the lighting there and it's just lit up on the scroll wheel and the thumb grid. Now for the reason most people buy this mouse instead of the old one. The reason is being able to switch from wired to wireless and being able to do it freely. This mouse comes with a rechargeable battery that hides inside of the mouse. It is removable and is inserted by taking off the right side of the mouse which is held on by magnets. Now, don't worry, this does not come off easily at all nor does it take a pro weight lifter either. You can either charge the mouse by using the wireless dock station that plugs into your computer to connect wirelessly to your mouse or you can connect it directly to the computer. I prefer to keep it wired, but the battery lasts for several days at a time and charges fairly quickly. If you unpack this mouse and you're thinking "Okay, what do I do now?" which is exactly what I did, just read the directions. Normally I can figure stuff out pretty easy like this without directions, but I was fairly confused as to how to connect it wired and where the battery went in the mouse. To connect it wired just plug the little slim USB into the front of the mouse right in-between the right click and left click. Once it is in, it will close the little gap in front of the scroll wheel and make the mouse look complete. The last thing to review would be the extra right side panels that come with the mouse for grip, but I have not tried the other ones out because I like the default one that is on it. Depending on hand size or how you hold the mouse the other two that come with it might be better for you. So, if you're worrying about if you're going to be able to hold on to the mouse just look for reviews of the other side panels. So now that you've read my review and might have to go back over it a few times, I hope you feel a lot better about this mouse and also about Razer. Enjoy!

weak product performance, terrible tech support

I have had problems with this mouse almost from the beginning. Primarily, every time the computer was restarted, I have to reprogram all the keys from scratch. I asked repeatedly for software that would work independent of the Internet, and simply store the program in my computer. Several promises were made to me but never kept. Finally the program stopped working altogether, and I spoke to someone at customer service for the 10th time, and I was given case number 351267. She promised that a high level technical support person would get in touch within a few days. It has been about two months with no reply, so I called into today. I was told that my case had been escalated to second tier support, and that there was nothing they could do but wait for a reply. This is shockingly bad customer service! I no longer have faith that they can solve my problem. The concept is great, but it's very glitchy, and their tech people are nice but grossly ineffective.

My Naga Epic came with a cable connector that protruded out the bottom, making the mouse unusable in wired mode. So I tried to use it exclusively in wireless mode, but then I encountered several problems: 1. The default sensitivity was set to 1800 DPI, which made the pointer move way too fast compared to the standard 800 DPI. 2. The Synapse 2.0 software was very unresponsive (though this was fixed in a later update). 3. Synapse 2.0 kept automatically disabling 'Enhance pointer precision' in Windows. 4. The mouse set itself to a high sensitivity whenever I rebooted my computer, until a few minutes after I signed in. 5. The sharp edges on the bottom of the mouse frayed my Razer Goliathus cloth mouse pad. 6. The mouse suddenly stopped responding in the middle of a game, fully charged. 7. The mouse wouldn't charge overnight completely if I put it on the charging stand without switching it to wired mode. 8. The battery indicator in Synapse 2.0 was buggy and inaccurate, with no percentage or estimated time remaining information. 9. It was hard to tell when the mouse was fully charged, since there were no indicator LEDs on the charging stand or the mouse. 10. Sometimes the pointer would feel choppy or stop moving for a few seconds. 11. It was easy to forget to charge the mouse before bed when I was tired. The battery only lasted a couple more hours the next day. These problems led me to return the mouse after one week of 16-hour usage. I've had a high regard for Razer products, but this one feels like an unfinished design. I'd like to see a future version include wireless charging (for convenience) and fix the random stuttering and disconnection problems (for potentially saving me from extreme rage). For now, I've ordered a Naga 2012 instead, because I can't live without the rock-solid connection of a wired mouse.
