About this item

Set in an Edwardian country house in 1912, "Downton Abbey" portrays the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them. Downton is the home of the Crawleys, who have been the earls of Grantham since 1772. In the drawing rooms, library and beautiful bedrooms, with their tall windows looking across the park, lives the family, but below the stairs are other residents - the servants, as fiercely possessive of their ranks as anyone above. Some of them are loyal to the family and are committed to Downton as a way of life, others are moving through, on the lookout for new opportunities, love or just adventure.

Featurettes, Subtitles: English.

"Making of Downton Abbey"; "A House in History".

this is such a great series!!! Saw it when it aired last January and absolutely loved it. I can watch it again and again. Love having it on DVD bc there are quite a few extra scenes that weren't shown on tv. If u are a period drama buff, totally recommend this!!! Everyone should have it in their collection. Am watching season 2 online now and it's just as amazing! The plots continue to thicken. Can't wait till I can buy season 2 also!!!

I bought the first season of Downton Abbey so that I could see it again after enjoying it on TV. This is one of the best productions I've ever enjoyed - the characters are interesting, it was historically accurate, the actors were terrific, and the writing for the script made it all interesting. With about 20 different characters in DA, each one of them were featured individually, many of them weekly. Each character is a story in themself. Season One is essential to understanding all of Season Two. I recommend Downton Abbey without reservation.

A bargain at $16.99, this 3-disc set has all 4 episodes in the UK uncut version. Special features include The Making of Downton Abbey and Downton Abbey: A House in History. The story starts in April, 1912 and brings us the story of the inhabitants of this lavish Edwardian house, both the servants and the family. The costumes are stunning, the acting superb. This series was created by Academy Award-winner Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) I'm looking forward to season 2 due next winter.

  • A. This is for the original season 1 of Downton Abbey. There are 3 discs in the package with a couple of episodes per disk. The other packages will indicate whether they are season 2 or 3 along the top of the package.

  • A. The UK version relates to the sceens, sounds and dialect, not the DVD or Bluray formatting. It plays very well and you will love it. I am absolutly hooked on the show.

  • A. The UK version is simply an un-edited version of the program. Due to the time constraints of American television, the program needed to be edited for time. I purchased the UK version and it works perfectly on my HP laptop and my DVD player. Go ahead and get it!

  • A. First let me say that buying these DVDs will be safe and will play in your player as any other DVD does. If you want an explanation read further. There are 6 regions, or zones (7 if you include zone 0), around the globe and DVDs sold in each of those zones will play in DVD players for that zone and not in other players from different zones. The reason for this is primarily to stop pirating of DVDs. If a person wants to order DVDs from other zones they can purchase players that will play DVDs from any zone for a slightly higher price than a regular player. Most discs have a built in lock-out code that only allows them to be played in units from the same region. Older movies, cartoons and educational materials normally do not have the lock-out code and can be played in any machine, these are considered to be "Zone 0". Playing movies from other zones in a laptop can also be a problem as DVD players on computers are limited in the number of times they can cross zones and will actually lock you out from your own legally bought machine if that number is exceeded. However, these DVDs "Masterpiece Classic: Downton Abbey", can be played in any player from North America (Zone 1) even though the programming originated in the United Kingdom (Zone 2). After all it is the DVDs themselves that have the lock-out code and has nothing to do with the information on them. You can buy DVDs from Wal-Mart with no concerns about them playing, they will all be coded for North America.
