Rated 4 out of 5 by magicmaargie I do not particularly like the software available for backup.
Would prefer software that backs up only new information.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Krisjack Do not get this drive
I would not recommend anyone in getting this drive. After two months of use the drive set a password all on its own and there is no remedy. So I lost all my information on the drive cause I have to get another one.Worst drive ever. This series is flawed.
Rated 5 out of 5 by EPerry63 Great product, Easy installation
I saw this through an email from Wal-Mart.com, and immediately jumped on it as I had been looking for an external hard drive for a few months. You can't beat the amount of storage space for the price, and the product is easy to install and start using. A wal-Mart 'best offer" in my book.
Rated 5 out of 5 by mboren So far no problems. Should be a great extension to my computer.

If you need a large capacity hard drive AVOID THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS!! I bought one that failed the next day. The second one failed after one week. I'm not doing this a third time.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Konnig Probably OK if the maker had customer service
Pup ate the power chord while I was setting it up so I never got to use it. Contacted company but they refuse to answer my e-mail requests to buy a new power chord.
Rated 5 out of 5 by BruceandJoanne Easy to use
So far so good. I bought it to use with my Dish Network DVR and it was extremely easy to set up and get running.
Rated 5 out of 5 by 21323 Great External Hard Drive
I've had this drive for about a year and haven't had any issues with it. I only use it to store movies and think it's great. I like the fact that Western Digital is keeping the same design on these drives because both my 2TB and 500GB EHDs match and look nice standing next to each other. They are also very quiet.
Rated 5 out of 5 by wifeandmotherof2boys Good Product
We received the 2TB My book hooked it up and it worked fantastically. There were easy to follow instructions and we were able to back up everything on the computer overnight. We have only had it for a few weeks but so far it is working for our back up needs. We have all of our photos and videos backed up and they are easily accessible if we need them. I would recommend this product to others.
Rated 2 out of 5 by JudgeBAT Totally Amazed
After having lost many multiple TBs of data due to WD HDD usb ports falling off, I bought a couple of these Western Digital 2TB drives. I learned the hard way to have multiple backup copies of Everything. Still terrified of having the usb port fall off and not being able to un-encrypt the data, I purchased a HD Docking Station to use the bare drives in. I've got to admit I was Completely Amazed to find that even though the HDD was equipped with a USB 3.0 port, the drive itself was only capable of SATA-2 speed! Also Incredibly, making it even slower, it only has a 32MB Cache! If You're looking for an external HDD, please try to find one that's capable of SATA-3 speed and has a 64 MB Cache. This one is four to six times slower at transferring data than My WD20EARX. At SATA-3, 6.0Gb/s with a 64 MB Cache, That's a Fantastic Drive!
Rated 5 out of 5 by whozis WD 2TB My Book Essential USB 3.0
My little 320 GB backup drive became full, so I opted for this larger one. This is presently doing the job, with much room for my photos, music, and document backup files. It is built to stand alongside a computer as a backup device, but I am using it as an off-site backup in case of fire, flood, theft, or the like. It is not recommended for this but I am using it as such, backing up about every two weeks. That means that I hook it up, do the backup, and unplug and box it. I am backing up manually, and have not utilized the automatic backup software, so I cannot comment on that. So far, so good, but I have only owned it for a couple of months.
Rated 5 out of 5 by hhdude Using it as added hard drive on Dish Network receiver. Works great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by ebrdude Good Product,Price/ Delayed delivery
Good product at a fair price and easily ordered online. There was a delay in delivery of some five days which might cause problems for some.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ladycat00 I recommend this product.
I just plugged it in and started using it. I didn't have to format it, install it or anything. I haven't had any problems with it.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Tex42 Works fine, no issues
Like my other WD My Book 1TB USB drives, this one works flawlessly like it should. I don't have a 3.0 port, just 2.0, so I can't comment about any speed up in transfer time over 2.0. It is quick enough for overnight backup duty even at 2.0. Make sure to buy this online for in-store pickup to save 20 bucks over the in-store price. I know this pricing policy doesn't make any sense, but 20 bucks is 20 bucks.
Rated 5 out of 5 by vahog As expected so far.
Works without problems with a 2.0 USB. Haven't tried 3.0 yet.
Rated 5 out of 5 by bteeter35 great product
I purchased this exclusively to hold my machine embroidery designs. I have downloaded them all and it has more room on it than I will ever require! The process was simple and quick and I now have a way to preserve what I have purchased.
Rated 5 out of 5 by DellXPSowner 2TB at an excellent price!
Just added USB 3.0 to my new computer. This drive works so much faster with USB 3.0 as compared to USB 2.0.
Rated 5 out of 5 by TheHobbyBarn Just another great product from the makers of WD
Awesome price for the size of this HD at only $129. I just bought this to us for my music files because I am a DJ on an Internet Radio Station and loading over 70GB of songs was nothing for this HD and the speed at 3.0 is amazing.. You won't go wrong buying this one. Trust me!! I wouldn't own any other brand HD out there.
Rated 5 out of 5 by firetrkdriver Works like it's supposed to....Plug and Play!
I bought this because it was one that my Dish Network DVR recognized for downloading my recordings.
All I did was plug it into a USB port on the DVR and the onscreen directions made it easy to save my excess recordings that I didn't want to delete. This freed up my memory for new recordings. Plenty of room with 2TB of space!
Rated 4 out of 5 by Snuf Seems to work ok, have trouble understanding the software and what it is doing sometimes.
Rated 5 out of 5 by BP234 Great Little Drive
This drive is great and works well on my home network. I've had it for 2 months now and no problems so far.
Rated 5 out of 5 by IdahoMike Only 5 days running, so far every thing cool
I have a question not a review. How do you measure the read/write speed of a drive. I see other articles and numbers given but not how they got them.
It's only 5 days old (on system) and runs good. I moved 50gb over as a test. Run good, data is still there. Time was not fast -- but the sorce was a slow drive.
