I have only made two batches of Ice Cream so far so I can't comment on its durability. The machine only has enough power to churn it to a certain thickness. This does not have the power of a 4 QT Ice Cream Maker that uses Ice and Salt. I bought a quart of Half and Half for $2 and a pint of Heavy whipping cream for $1.50 and was able to make 2 batches of Ice Cream (Approx 3 quarts) on different days of course not back to back. I used the four ingredient Vanilla Ice Cream recipe. As Soft serve, its not as creamy as Dairy queen but once its frozen it makes a very good Vanilla Ice Cream. You should plan on freezing the Ice Cream in a Freezer after making it. If your "pail/bucket" is completely frozen when you start your Ice Cream will be done in 15 to 20 minutes. If you let it churn longer than that, your Ice Cream will develop ice crystals and start to loose some of its smooth texture. The Ice Cream is done when the "pail" is full and the Ice Cream is light and Fluffy. Letting it churn longer hurts the texture of the Ice Cream. I washed one of those plastic 4 qt containers (tubs) that Ice Cream comes in and I just pour the finished Ice Cream into that and drop it into the chest freezer to finish freezing.

I've had this maker for awhile now. I love it. It's easy to clean, the motor has push clips so it easily pops out of the lid so the lid can be washed. The container does take up some room in the freezer, but it beats messing with ice and rock salt. Someone said the motor was loud, it does make some noise, but it's quieter than the big makers that require ice and salt. It's quick too, the directions say 20-40 minutes, I've never had to run mine for the full 40 minutes. Others complain that the ice cream doesn't get very firm while in the machine. I've eaten alot of homemade ice cream in my life and I've never seen any homemade ice cream get very firm while in the machine, it always needs to be transferred to a freezer to finish hardening up.

I've always been skeptical about ice cream makers even though I am an ice cream lover and didn't think I could beat my mother's home-made ice cream from when I was a kid. The biggest concern was that I wanted to make my own ice cream from all natural ingredients and not all the preservatives they put in store bought ice cream, so I thought I'd give this a try (given that I consume entirely too much ice cream as it is!). There is almost no assembly out of the box and is ready to go. I put the freezer bowl in the freezer over night and tried making it in the morning. I found adjacent, and conveniently to the maker a pouch of ice cream mix just to try it out first because I had no knowledge or experience at all. It is called "Rival Frozen Delights" mix for $2.00 and the flavor is "Sugar-Free Chocolate Delight." I mixed HALF of the pouch of sugar free chocolate mix with 3 cups of 2% milk and allowed to chill in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Mixed it again, and SLOWLY poured it in the maker while it was turned on with the paddle installed. After about 30 minutes of the machine churning the ice cream, it began to expand and thicken. I happily poured myself a serving in a mug to try it out. It had a very thick milk shake-like texture and tasted GREAT!! I put the remainder, and majority, of the mixture into an air tight container and put that in the freezer. Later that evening, it had time to harden up a little like store bought ice cream. I highly recommend this product! It was easy to use, takes no time at all, and makes great all natural ice cream with an easy clean up. I had originally wanted the Cuisinart Ice 21 maker being a big fan of their products, but for $55, I wasn't sure if it was worth the time and money just to try it out. Not only was the Hamilton Beach maker only $27 and change, when I got to the register it was on sale for an even $20! (Fairfield, CA location). So I am going back to buy another one for a sibling. I don't usually write many reviews, but this was worth the time. I hope that helps all you ice cream lovers! Downside: I have to wait to make more! But it's important to chill the mixture, and then put the rest in a container to freeze for a couple of hours. That's why I like ot make it in the morning, and its pig out ready for us when home from work after dinner for dessert. There are many, many ice cream recipes. This is the first one I've tried, and Vanilla is next, then Cappuccino, and other fruit based flavors.

I like the ice-cream maker because the flavor of the ice cream is so much tastier than the ice cream one buys in the dairy section. Also you can add all types of fruits to make it taste even better. With this ice cream maker one does not need the rock salt nor ice to fuss with.

Overall: This is a nice ice cream maker. Pros: Simple to use - one button On/Off, parts fit together only one way. Makes ice cream well. Cons: It is hard to clean. The parts are unusual in shape and the outer container has crevices. When you put the paddle into the motor it can push the motor out of the clear plastic part. You have to hold the motor from the other side when you put the paddle in. It feels light (this is might be a pro depending on point of view). Tips: The inside container has a nonstick surface, so use appropriate items when removing ice cream like a plastic or wooden spoon or it can be scratched. When the inside container is cold anything can freeze to it such as a napkin or a rag. Make sure it is thoroughly clean and dry before freezing. When you want to make ice cream, remember that there is a delay. The inside container has to be frozen and the ice cream mix has to be cold. This can take 24 hours. Also, make sure the ice cream mix is very cold.
