Movie Description

The following content was provided by the publisher.

Filmed in the United Kingdom and produced by Hal Roach, Jr., each of these twelve chilling episodes re-creates tales of eerie, macabre and unexplainable happenings in normal settings, to otherwise normal people. In classic 1950s British television fashion, reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock, the great Boris Karloff hosts Tales of the Unexplained from cavernous castle room, before an enormous blazing fireplace. he assumes the air of a man curious about strange tales he is about to tell, assuring us that they are all true. Karloff himself appears in several of the episodes, playing the roles of regular people trapped in an unfamiliar world of the supernatural and the paranormal, including a sea captain, a police chief, a doctor and a lawyer. His exceptional acting skills are supported by a fine cast, including appearances by Patrick Macnee, ("The Avengers"), Leo Penn ("Matlock"), Aregentina Brunetti ("It's A Wonderful Life"), and George Hamilton in a cameo role. In a curious, somewhat appropriate twist, when filming was completed, the Hal Roach Studios ran into financial difficulties, and the series never aired on television. it was kept in a vault for many years, and remarkably, the crisp black and white photography and sound quality survived so that TMG can bring you these twelve "Tales of the Unexplained!" As a special bonus, the unofficial pilot of "The Veil," entitled "The Vestris" (which aired on Telephone Time) and a previously unavailable episode "Peggy" are included in this unique two disc set. Includes: "The Vestris" - Boris karloff plays a mysterious, ghostly apparition who appears to a woman on a sea crossing. "Girl On The Road" - A motorist gives a lift to a beautiful young girl, who has run out of gas. At the pub in a nearby town, the name Morgan Debs is heard, and the girl flees. Who is this mysterious girl, and who is Morgan Debs? "Food On The Table" - Upon his return from a long sea voyage, a ship's captain saves his unloved wife's life, only to discover that a rich widow is smitten with him. "The Doctors" - The doctor son of the old village physician returns to his hometown to convince his father to retire, but strange things happen when the young man attempts to care for one of his patients. "The Crystal Ball" - As a parting gift to her jilted lover, a French girl gives him a crystal ball. But what he sees in the ball is not what she had intended. "Vision Of Crime" - On a boat trip to Paris, visions of his brother's murder in England come to a man who on his return must save an innocent man from the gallows, and entrap the killer. "Genesis" - In a story drawing on the biblical tale of Jacob and Esau, two sons of a dying farmer quarrel over the old man's will. "Destination Nightmare" - A pilot has a vision while in midair, narrowly avoiding a crash. Haunted by his vision, he is determined to discover, was it his imagination, or a true vision of the future? "Summer Heat" - the past, present and future become blurred when a man witnesses a crime in the apartment across from his own, only to have the police discover the apartment is empty! "The Return Of Madame Vernoy" - In an eerie tale if reincarnation set in a small town in India, a girl is born with the memories of Madame Vernoy, who died in the village. Leaving a widower and her young son. "Jack The Ripper" - A clairvoyant, in dreams and visions. sees a series of grisly murders in London's Whitechapel district. But his knowledge of the details of the crimes makes him a suspect in the eyes of the police. "Peggy" - A teenage girl, Ruth, is possessed by the tormented soul of another young girl.
