"Search & Destroy ": Martin Mirkheim is bound for greatness - even if nobody else thinks so - in this fast and funny look at fame, fortune and the pursuit of the American Dream from executive producer Martin Scorsese. Griffin Dunne is Martin, a small-time guy with big-time schemes. Inspired by a late-night cable-TV philosopher (Dennis Hopper), Martin becomes so convinced that his destiny involves producing an overblown screen epic, he's oblivious to the fact that his life is falling apart around him. Still, hounded by the IRS, hassled by his wife (Rosanna Arquette) and harassed by hangers-on (Ethan Hawke), Martin pursues his dream, heading for Manhattan and hooking up with a wacky screenwriting receptionist (Illeana Douglas), a karaoke-crazed New York businessman (Christopher Walken) and a mod-squad, speed-rapping street king (John Turturro). "The Last Days Of Frankie The Fly": Frankie (Dennis Hopper) is a low-level mob associate known as "The Fly" - since, like a fly, he can do no harm to anybody. Being so peaceful, Sal (Michael Madsen), his boss, never sends him for any of his brutal 'missions,' sending Vic (Dayton Callie), his right-hand man instead. One day, Frankie is assigned to collect an old debt from Joey (Kiefer Sutherland), a porno filmmaker and compulsive gambler deeply in debt to Sal. There Frankie meets Margaret (Daryl Hannah), a porno actress with whom he falls in love. To further her career, Frankie makes a personal agreement with Joey that will allow him to write the script for Margaret's next film, a serious one this time. Trouble begins when Sal discovers he's been fooled and plots revenge. Not a single one of Frankie's friends will be spared. This entertaining and highly comic film features a surprisingly warm and tender performance from Hopper, which should delight and surprise his many fans.
