Book Information

The following content was provided by the publisher.

"That's when I saw him--the cowboy--across the smoky room."

I'll never forget that night. It was like a romance novel, an old Broadway musical, and a John Wayne western rolled into one. Out for a quick drink with friends, I wasn't looking to meet anyone, let alone a tall, rugged cowboy who lived on a cattle ranch miles away from my cultured, corporate hometown. But before I knew it, I'd been struck with a lightning bolt . . . and I was completely powerless to stop it.

Read along as I recount the rip-roaring details of my unlikely romance with a chaps-wearing cowboy, from the early days of our courtship (complete with cows, horses, prairie fire, and passion) all the way through the first year of our marriage, which would be filled with more challenge and strife--and manure--than I ever could have expected.

This isn't just my love story; it's a universal tale of passion, romance, and all-encompassing love that sweeps us off our feet.

It's the story of a cowboy.

And Wranglers.

And chaps.

And the girl who fell in love with them.

Review by Library Journal (2011-04-15)

Romance readers and fans of Drummond's hugely popular Pioneer Woman biog will swoon over the details of how she met, was courted by, and married "Marlboro Man", a.k.a. the Oklahoma cowboy (really) who whisks her from the land of J. Crew to Wrangler country. Drummond's sincere, just-us-girls tone carries the book, and even the recipes at the end and mentions of her parents' divorce don't weigh things down. What I'm Telling My Friends As light and airy as one of Drummond's pies, this is one that you are either going to love or leave on the shelf. Anyone who knows me can guess where my copy is. Your romance mileage may vary; I suspect a sequel is in the works.

Book description

That’s when I saw him—the cowboy—across the smoky room.

I’ll never forget that night. It was like a romance novel, an old Broadway musical, and a John Wayne Western rolled into one. Out for a quick drink with friends, I wasn’t looking to meet anyone, let alone a tall, rugged cowboy who lived on a cattle ranch miles away from my cultured, corporate hometown. But before I knew it, I’d been struck with a lightning bolt... and I was completely powerless to stop it.

This isn’t just my love story; it’s a universal tale of passion, romance, and all-encompassing love that sweeps us off our feet.

It’s the story of a cowboy. And Wranglers. And chaps. And the girl who fell in love with them.

Rated 4.9 out of 5★ by 12reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by sweet love story I enjoy The Pioneer Woman's Blog/website so I was very interested in reading this book. Her unique sense of humor mixes with Romance novel-like writing. I thought the love story was sweet, old fashioned. But she also includes things that were happening in her life such as the divorce of her parents, very real feelings. I also liked that she could laugh at the embarrassing things that happened to her. It is a fun read. 02/17/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Exxcellent Read! Just a wonderful story. I started reading Ree Drummond's blog, the Pioneer Woman.com, a few months ago. I was thrilled to learn she has two books out: Her cookbook and Black Heels. It's simply a love story, a story of family, and Ree's courtship with her husband the "Marlboro Man" as she calls him. I finished the book in a matter of days (which is hard for me to do, finding time taking care of a two- and one-year-old!). Awesome book. I am looking forward to reading her cookbook, too. 02/17/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Love the Pioneer Woman! I love this book. I now all of her books that she has written, including Charlie. Love my books! 04/29/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Wonderful reading!!!!! Ree's done it again - produced a great book that is fun to read. I laughed out loud at times and cried when she hurt. Highly recommend! 05/21/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by A Woman After My Own Heart I ordered this book after seeing Ree on a local news station talking about her website (I live in Oklahoma too). I loved her book and found myself able to connect with her story. She is such a "real" person and tells about her glamorous and her not so glamorous aspects about her life. 03/07/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Saddle Up Your Horses!!! This was the best book I've read in a long time...I couldn't put it down. It will make you want to stock up on Wrangler Jeans, cowboy boots and starch some crisp blue shirts for your cowboy....or turn your man into a cowboy. 03/09/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by OH HEAVENS! This was the BEST book I've ever read. Written so incredibly well, when it was over I said, "whaaaaat?" Haha, definitely a must read, and great price too! 04/04/2011
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Great Book but........... When I opend the box the book looked like a used one. There was a huge notch torn in the hardback part of the book and looked like it had been ran over. The outside cover was damaged. 04/06/2011
