Movie Description

The following content was provided by the publisher.

"Forbidden Planet" is the granddaddy of tomorrow, a pioneering work whose ideas and style would be reverse-engineered into many cinematic space voyages to come. Leslie Nielsen plays the commander who brings his spacecruiser crew to Planet Altair-4, home to Dr. Morbius (Walter Pidgeon), his daughter (Anne Francis), a dutiful robot named Robby... and to a mysterious terror. Featuring sets of extraordinary scale and the first all-electronic musical soundscape in film history, "Forbidden Planet" is in a movie orbit all its own.

Customer Product Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5★ by 11reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Old but still plays well From 1956, this is the movie that started taking sci-fi from B to A movies. You can see some of the beginnings of Star Trek and Star Wars. You do have to see Leslie Nielson still in his serious acting time well before Airplane and Police Squad and with dark hair. The movie still holds well and the supplements are entertaining, even to the point of explaing the creation of Robby the Robot. Very entertaining and worth purchasing, in my opinion. Purchased the Blu-ray to replace the DVD. 09/13/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Spectacular Eye Candy Thought the original 1956 was great but the blu-rayversion was absolutely spectacular eye candy!!!A must for true sci-fi buffs!!!! 10/03/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Why cant they make movies like this any more ? Very good quality,I'm sad to say ,most movies transfered to blu-ray don't have this good of quality. Great movie, most movies these days, aren't worth watching once, this is a classic, WORTHY OF ANY COLLECTION!! 03/14/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Forbidden Planet (Blu-ray) (Widescreen) Unbelievably Gorgeous Movie way ahead of it's time that influenced Star Trek and Stat Wars Series! 04/26/2011
Rated 4 out of 5★ by I recently purchased the Blu Ray edition of the movie "Forbidden Planet" Although it is a beautiful copy its not much better than the 50th anniversary edition put out a few years ago on standard DVD the extras are exactly the same. 08/26/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Must Have Late 1950's MGM Produced Sci-Fi Classic If the sci-fi film genre was a house, this movie is a main support beam in its structure. The picture and sound quality is superlatively rendered on the Blu-Ray Widecreen format disc. Do watch the additional information and commentary about the film presented in the Special Features. It will likely enhance ones' appreciation for the movie. A sequel movie, "The Invisible Boy" is on the disc in B/W Widescreen. A neglected young son of a brilliant computer scientist father befriends an abandoned robot. A great computer, designed by boy's father, goes egomaniacally bezerk. The computer takes control of the robot. Watch the movie and see if the boy restores the robot to follow Asimov's laws of robotics and is delivered from peril!!! 08/29/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Blu Ray Classic Sci-Fi movie review For you Sci-Fi movie buffs, this is the ultimate technology that finally is worthy of the subject it plays! MGM gave this movie its all when it made it as most sci-fi movies of the 50's era were almost all "B" movies but this one stands out! The Blu-Ray format also allows you to see a lot more information about this great movie as well as some behind-the-scenes info about Robbie the Robot! Well worth the price 03/08/2011
Rated 3 out of 5★ by The plot of the story was good, but I didn't realize how hokey the sets were back then. 09/06/2013
