Bought the vac to replace an older, heavier one. It works very well, easy to operate and seems to pick up every speck on the carpet. A good buy and a good tool. Works as well as the previous vac and cost about half as much.

I LOVE this vacuum. I borrower my parent's Hoover Tempo about a month ago since my $300 dirt devil broke. This is an awesome vacuum. The first time I used it my husband asked if I had the carpets steam cleaned because it picked up all dirt my other vacuum could not. I have a dog and it picks up all dog hair. I love using it on stairs because it’s not too heavy. Not to mention price!!! It's one of the best values! LOVE IT LOVE IT, I just bought one today and I get wait to get it.
Rated 1 out of 5 by twojs I purchased this vacuum because Consumer Reports gave it a high rating, however it does not live up to that rating. The cord is extremely short. The hose is very inflexible & short which makes using the attachments awkward. The hose does not securely attach to the intake port and disconnects randomly during use. And the attachments continually fall off their storage places on the vacuum body. Vacuuming isn't a fun chore but this vacuum makes it intolerable.
Rated 2 out of 5 by STLwmFAN Cheap but low quality, attachments fall off
Hoover quality has gone way downhill, apparently. I have to clarify that the sub-$100 price is attrctive if it even works for a few years, though.
Couple of small dents/dimples on top of the base, appeared to be a result of manufacturing process, but didn't want to re-pack for return and wait for a replacement. I struggle with any imperfections in new products, but realized that I'm gonna bang it up anyway.
Fairly easy/quick assembly (maybe 10 minutes)
Light weight, but not too light
Bagged (my preference. Bagless are very messy to me)
Hoover brand (though, I am seriously questioning the quality and reliability now)
Obviously very cheaply made. EVERYTHING seems to be very thin plastic. Wheels look like a toy.
Color: What were they thinking? Just the sight of it makes me want to finish as fast as possible so I don't have to bear that any more than necessary.
Front cover on mine doesn't seem to fit very well/flush. Looks like a long locking tab may be missing/broken. Two main ones there, but looks like where maybe a long one may have been got snapped off. Pretty sure mine was probably returned before/rejected during assembly etc.
Attachements: Hose too short and very low quality. Thankfully, I don't use that much. Attachments are not enclosed in a compartment and easily fall off of hooks. Very annoying.
Switch isn't on handle, but lower on unit. Very odd/awkward.
Cord is a little short and the way it comes out of unit requires constant holding to avoid running over it.
Overall, for the price, not bad for light duty use, but the cons are a lot to put up with. Our last Hoover (bought around 2004 or so) was 1,000% better in every way, and wasn't really a premium sweeper. Motor was going out and whining so loud you had to wear shooter hearing protection. Motor was about $100 and I could have replaced it. I had it all apart. I wish now that I would have repaired it, but at the time, it didn't seem to make sense to spend $100-150 on a sweeper that I only probably paid $150 for. I would have been so much better off, though, knowing what I do now.
After all of my shopping this time, it seems difficult to find anything worth having for under about $200 so I thought I'd take a chance on this one. Hopefully, I can find a better replacement next time before it breaks and I'm in a jam for a replacement.
You may be able to find this one in stores such as Kohls, etc still for around $100. I would recommend that, for easier return, if you don't like it.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Neatnan Good value for cleaning carpet with pet hair.
After reading way too many product reviews, I chose this product. I have a 3 bedroom townhouse with carpet throughout the bedrooms and the finished basement. I also have two dogs and a fiance who is allergic to dogs. I've used bagless vacuums in the past and switched to a bag model to cut down on allergens. This vacuum has been used at least once a week for the past 3 months and during heavy-duty cleaning in the process of moving from one townhouse to another.
Pros: Affordable - because this model is so inexpensive, the cost of bags balances out when compared to the bagless front-runners. Suction is excellent: I've actually had to be careful with this because even the attachment will suck up a heavy throw rug. So far it has been doing an excellent job picking up dog hair.
Cons: The hose is not of the highest quality and will sometimes twist off the machine if I'm trying to maneuver in an awkward space. There is no drapery attachment and the suction is definitely powerful enough to pull curtains right off the rod. The hose is short: the entire vacuum falls over if there is tension on the hose and no one is holding the base, and the entire thing must be carried up and down the stairs in order to vacuum stairs with the attachment. The brushes continue spinning even when cleaning on bare floor, resulting in dirt flying everywhere.
To sum up: This product is worth the money if you're planning on basic vacuuming of carpets (including pet hair). If you're planning on using your vacuum on bare floor and/or want versatile attachments, you might want to consider a different model.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Moxma One-trick pony but great cleaning pet hair on rugs
I bought this based on the Consumer Reports review as well as customer reviews on the Walmart and other vendor sites. Purchased from Walmart because it was on sale plus offered free shipping to home. And Walmart has that 90 day return policy on appliances.
This Hoover vacuum is really a problem solver - getting the dogs' hair off of the rugs was impossible with our other vacs - a Miele canister (whose rug beater bar attachment is so weak that I would literally make 20 passes over an area without picking up the fur) and a lightweight Bissell sweeper.
The Hoover gets those rugs clean in one pass. WHAT A RELIEF! I don't even mind the noise.
This Hoover can't turn off the power beater bar, and so on bare floors it scatters as much as it picks up. The suction on the hose attachment is also weak, and the hose is so short that it's very clumsy to use. They offer a 20 foot extension hose but I'm not going to add 20 feet onto mediocre suction. So we use this vac for rugs only, and the sweeper for floors, and the canister for upholstery and crevice tool vacuuming.
In this price range you can't expect one vacuum cleaner to do it all. But the Hoover does its one trick very well and I am thrilled to have it.
Rated 5 out of 5 by JeriP Great buy
For the money, you can't beat this vacuum cleaner. The suction is very powerful and the hose that comes with it is very useful. One tip, if you want to use the hose, make sure that the vacuum remains locked in the upright position or else the dust will fly out of the vacuum. There was a person who complained about the hose ( how the dust was coming out of the hole at the bottom of the vacuum). Well, I had that problem also in the beginning. But I realized a few minutes later that I had to keep the vacuum in the upright position in order to use the hose. Otherwise, the vacuum is perfect.
Rated 4 out of 5 by KaptainKangaroo We love the Hoover Tempo Widepath. It replaces a very expensive Bissell self-propelled bagless vacuum that was supposed to excel at picking up pet hair. The Hoover is superior to the Bissell in every way with one exception. The power cord is enough shorter than the Bissell's that we have to modify our plug-in points as we move throughout the house. The shorter power cord is the only thing keeping me from giving the vacuum 5 stars.
The Hoover is light and easy to maneuver into corners and along edges. Its suction does a better job of picking up pet hair than the Bissell ever did. In fact, we are thinking of buying one or two more Tempo Widepaths and keeping them in reserve for when this one gives out.
Rated 5 out of 5 by TSme I love this vacuum!
I really do! Not just the great price, but what a great product! So easy to use, almost seems like it's "self propelled." It's got a really wide path that cuts my time down considerably and it gets under cabinets better than any other one that I've had. Assembly was easy, and seems like I got it within 2-3 days of ordering. Very impressive. If you're on the fence about buying this, buy it! Best vacuum that I've ever had.
Rated 5 out of 5 by joeyneabz I love this thing! It has a wide path, and is easy to get close up against edges. No filters to clean, no clumps of dirt falling out. Easy to replace bag. Much less dusty than previous bagless that I had. Practically propels itself. Nice long cord, unlike prior Bissel. Suction is much better than any I've had before. The only thing is that one of the tools doesn't want to stay in it's place onboard, but that is no big deal to me. The Bare Floor setting actually works, it doesn't just shoot stuff out the back.
Rated 5 out of 5 by mom2brimarie Excellent vacuum!
I LOVE this vacuum! It's super easy to push and picks up most everything on the first pass. It makes our 5-year old carpet look new again, which my previous vacuum didn't. I like that it's a bag and I don't have to empty out a dusty canister. It's not very loud...I'm able to vacuum without waking my 2-year old up while she's napping, which is nice. It also does well on bare floors and the front is slim enough to fit under the cabinets. This is a great vacuum, especially for how inexpensive it is. Highly recommended!
Rated 5 out of 5 by 2boys4us The best one I've found
Powerful Suction! On rugs it propels forward by itself which I like, but its the dragging it back that it gets a little heavy. I like the long attachments, wish the hose was a bit longer though. On floors it doesn't spit everything back out at you which was my biggest annoyance on other vacumns. I have to recommend it as the best I've ever found. Good price too.

pros: super strong. very handy. nice tools.
cons: relatively loud. no filled bag indicator.

This is a value for the money. Delivers performance for the money's value. Nothing more.
Rated 4 out of 5 by peamom Great Value. Great Price
Have one of these for me, and bought one for mom. Suction is excellent. Hose could be a little longer which is why the four stars. But I abused mine vacuuming construction dirt (mostly sand at a beach house) off plywood floors. Figured I would kill it and throw it out. Well it never died and now vacuuming the new house with it. Terrific value and hose suction is SUPER. Mom loves hers cause not too heavy or cumbersome. Worth every penny.
Rated 5 out of 5 by WorkingMamaWife Great Vacuum
My only gripe is the hose - it doesn't reach very far at all. That being said.....I have 2 young boys, 2 cats and 1 dog (white hair) with red carpeting! Mainly because of the shedding, I have to vacuum daily. This vacuum has great suction and did the job perfectly. When I first tried it - I had to ask my husband if it was sad that a vacuum could make me so happy??!!
Rated 4 out of 5 by tiggerbears Strong vacuum for a small price
For the price this vacuum is great! It's mostly plastic so don't expect it to look like a high-end or even mid-range vac - it's pretty ugly. It's also very loud compared to other vacuum's I've used. It's holding up very well so far.
Rated 1 out of 5 by silasmarner short flexible hose
The hose on this vacuum is too short. When I wrestled with it to reach anything it came loose from the machine. Hoover customer service said they didn't have a longer flexible hose to sell for this model. Also...had to keep the roller brush at the lowest level to pick up anything on the floor. I returned the machine to the store. This machine is worth $40...not $79.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Mansweep This vacumm does not have a switch to turn off the rollers, therefore it is a ridiculous buy for someone who has wood floors.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Chilidogs Buy New....Get Used!
I orderd this vacume cleaner from WalMart.com, I had it shipped to the local store for pick up, once I recieved it, brought it home and opened it up, what I found was shocking, this is no doubt a USED vacume cleaner, clear signs that this unit was used due to the bumps and scratches in all the right places that you would expect from bumping into furniture, also the small foot pedal relase to allow the unit to swing up and down showed clear signs of wear! Also they were attachment pieces that ALSO showed clear sign of usage.... BEWARE you may not recieve what you thought you were buying!!! I now have to take it back and return to the local Wal Mart for a refund, and I will not reorder this again, I will buy it from a competitor that sells NEW and not USED!
Rated 1 out of 5 by jacquilt The hose on this vacuum cleaner is horrible. It is short and doesn't stretch well at all. It kinks easily. Every time I try to use it, the vacuum cleaner falls over on top of me. And I feel like the roller brush is ruining one of my expensive wool area rugs. It seems to have roughed up the surface and pulled up some of the fibers, something I've never experienced with my previous two vacuum cleaners. I've had this product all of two weeks and I'm ready to buy a new one. I expected better from Hoover. Oh, well, lesson learned. No more cheap vacuum cleaners for me!
Rated 5 out of 5 by PhyllisC Hoover Tempo Widepath Bagged upright Vacuum
I have not had the vacuum for very long. I do like the way it picks up cat fur and the great suction it has to get the dirt off the carpet. It does shoot the dirt out behind the vacuum when you're doing the linoleum floor in the kitchen, but I cured that by walking backwards. Starting at one end of the kitchen and ending at the other.( My Kirby even did that). The things I don't like are the attachemnts keep popping off the back of the vacuum, and that the attachment hose is way too short. Having to get a stretchy hose is going to be more cost to me. I'm not happy with that. It is loud, but no louder than what my Kirby was. As far as getting the dirt up and having good suction, It is a VERY good vacuum cleaner and I'm glad I purchased it. I do like the way it's easy to push and feels like it's self propelled. It's easier on my back.
Rated 5 out of 5 by MLP49 Great value, very pleased!
I purchased this vacuum several weeks ago and couldn't be more pleased! Great price, shipping was quick and as it should, this vac sucks! ;)
Seriously, I have two other name brand vacs that are bagless and hate them! They are unpleasant to have to empty them and filters are constantly needing cleaning. I wanted to go back to the bag ones and after reading the reviews about this one, I am glad that this was my choice! I purchased bags online for about a buck a bag with free shipping, and what could be easier than just changing the bag? The filters on those bagless ones are expensive, never again!
I will agree with the statement that the hose is short if you ever want to use that feature instead of doing just the floor or rugs. It is also rather stiff as well. Frankly, I have always used my canister vac for stairs but after purchasing this vac, I went to an auction and bought a box lot and lo and behold, in the bottom of that box was a brand new long flexible hose that fit this vac perfectly and I tried it on the stairs and I'll be using it in the future instead of the canister as I didn't have to place the canister on the stairs to do the whole stairs. The longer hose allowed me to leave the vac at the bottom and it stretched all the way to the top! This longer hose is available as an extra and would be well worth it to purchase with this vac!
One thing that I especially love about the bagged ones, this one especially, is that the vac doesn't shoot out clumps of dirt when the filters are dirty like the bagless ones do. I have five cats and this one is great for picking up that fur! Consumer Reports had it right when recommending this vac as having great performance and value! I will be replacing those bagless ones for the other two floors in my house!
Rated 5 out of 5 by kjg27 Great for allergies and low budget
If you don't have a lot to spend on a vacuum and you have allergies, GET THIS VACUUM! I moved into an apartment and my allergies started acting up...I think previous tenants had cats or something I was allergic to. I got this vacuum and have been using it daily for a few weeks now...it has made a HUGE difference. It is very good at removing allergens.
Rated 4 out of 5 by thecvogle Very good vacuum, we have had several. I have my own cleaning service. It is light but the only downside to it is the plastic hose attachment. It is very brittle and not flexible. I actually took a rubber hose attachement from a junk vacuum and used that one instead
Rated 4 out of 5 by FRAN128 Good Vacuum for the price
This is actually my second Tempo. It has great suction! My only complaint is the hose is a bit stiff and it's just a little harder to maneuver than my old Hoover. But, for the price, I don't think you can go wrong with this product.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solara1972 Excellent Buy!! Highly recommend!!
I was in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. So many products out there. I decided since I have allergies I would stay with the bagged upright. After reading reviews from several websites including consumer reports (this vacuum is listed as #5 in 2012)-I purchased the Hoover Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright. It was easy to assemble, I did it by myself. It was easy to use--very light and I could carry it very easily. I read complaints about it being too loud, it wasn't loud to me at all. I miss the light in the front, but I am willing to give that up. My carpet looks so good after I vacuumed. My husband commmented on how GREAT the carpet looked. It looks like I just steam cleaned it!!! I highly recommend this vacuum- -and the price is excellent
Rated 4 out of 5 by syreen Great for the Price.
The cleaning efficiency of this product is great. The only complaint I have is that the material is very weak plastic. So you have to handle it very gently. As long you do that its great vaccum cleaner for this low price of under hundred bucks.
Rated 5 out of 5 by coollx Great vacuum cleaner, especially for the price.
Works very well. When my daughter went away to college I asked a local appliance/fix it shop what he would recommend for a vacuum cleaner and he said without hesitation a hoover tempo so we bought it. My wife liked it so well she asked me to buy her one so I did.
Rated 4 out of 5 by sejrs Good for the price
I have had this vacuum for a couple of months now. One reviewer said it came without a bag, so I bought some bags as soon as it was delivered, but when I opened the box, there was a bag. The suction is great, it is fairly light compared to some other vacuums I have had. The only things I would change are these:
1. I would like to have a longer cord
2. The hose for the attachments seems a little short and I have had the end that stays connected to the vacuum come off several times while I have been using it. It does not connect securely to the vacuum, so it comes off fairly easily which I find annoying.
3. You have to switch height levels and bare floor level by hand, and at least on my vacuum, this lever is rather hard to slide.
Even with these cons, I would recommend it for the price.
