Movie Description

The following content was provided by the publisher.

"Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant", based on the popular series of books by Darren Shan, is a fantasy-adventure about a teenager who unknowingly breaks a 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires. Pulled into a fantastic life of misunderstood sideshow freaks and grotesque creatures of the night, one teen will vanish from the safety of a boring existence and fulfill his destiny in a place drawn from nightmares. 16-year-old Darren (Chris Massoglia) was like most kids in his suburban neighborhood. He hung out with his best friend, got decent grades and usually stayed out of trouble. But when he and his buddy stumble upon a traveling freak show, things begin to change inside Darren. That's the exact moment when a vampire named Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) turns him into something, well, bloodthirsty. Newly undead, he joins the Cirque Du Freak, a touring sideshow filled with monstrous creatures from a snakeboy and a wolfman to a bearded lady (Salma Hayek) and a gigantic barker (Ken Watanabe). As Darren flexes his newfound powers in this dark world, he becomes a treasured pawn between the vampires and their deadlier counterparts. And while trying to survive, one boy will struggle to keep their brewing war from devouring what's left of humanity.

Rated 4.3 out of 5★ by 13reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by A Very Good Movie I believe that this was one of the best movies I've seen. It doesn't have to follow the series exactly, or even make sense, after all, it is only the first movie. The acting was pretty good. The characters were also very good, they filled the spots where they needed to be filled. I dislike how some critics compare this movie to Twilight, when it doesn't have anything in common, except for th efact that they both have vampires. Over all, I found this movie to very good, and I can't stop watching it. 03/07/2010

Rated 5 out of 5★ by This is one of the best movies i ever saw This Vampires Assistant is very foward and it always keeps you on your toes. When i watched the movie i had to see if there were books because it got me into the saga. I cant wait till the next movie comes out! Well, if you are the type who like vampires and action this is the movie for you and maybe you can even read the books. There are 12 books, the first 3 books are one the first movie and it will contuine to be three books per movie. Thanks so much. 12/28/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Great Movie I bought this after watching it with a friend. I put it in the DVD player and everyone in my family loves it. Some of us can't stop watching it. If they keep that up I'll have 2 buy another copy. 11/11/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by I thought the movie was great, it had a good story line. 11/04/2010
Rated 2 out of 5 Hmmmmm.... This movie got me interested in reading the books, which are way better. If you are a fan of the series then this film is not for you, but as the begining of a series of movies it, hopefully, should get better. So in short not the best movie, but not nearly the worst I"ve seen. 03/16/2010
Rated 1 out of 5★ by This movie is horrible. I recently bought this movie thinking that it would be pretty decent to watch. It is one of the worse movies I have seen in a long time. The acting was awful in this movie, the story line didn't make sense, and the whole thing just left you with more questions than answers. To me it just seemed like they just threw bits and pieces from the whole book series (then threw in a bunch of stuff that never happened in the series) and called it a movie. I was just so disappointed. I at worse thought this movie would be decent to watch. I seriously don't ever want to pop that DVD into my DVD player ever again. Don't waste your money on this movie, because it will be a major let down if you do.A lot of characters made no sense why they were even a part of the movie and then a lot of the ways the characters reacted weren't believible (like the main character doesn't even seemed fazed by the fact he has to leave his family "forever").If you still aren't convinced by me (and who knows maybe you will like the movie), then please rent it first to be sure. 03/01/2010
