This board made it possible for me to put a SATA drive on to an IDE system. It works well with the newer IDE systems that have a pin blocked on the cable, but I was trying to use an older system that has all of the IDE pins open. I had better luck with a newer system. BTW, this will probably not work if you have an Emachines computer and are trying to use this to boot up a system disk from another computer..

After trying a few of these items that look like near clones of each other from different companies, and on a few different machines, I have this to offer. 1. If you connect two drives to the unit, you're asking for trouble. Looking at several pairs of different drives using the popular and reliable Aconis True Image software (booting from the CD itself), you'll see that the unit makes both drives appear to have the exact same make and model, even though they are completely different. As such and at least in Windows XP pro, any attempt to boot with both drives connected will fail, even if the second is just formatted and partitioned as a blank for extra storage. 2. If you try to use this with a bootable XP drive that works fine on the target system via its Motherboard SATA port, but then try it through a motherboard IDE port, you'll find that XP reports a missing or corrupt system file. This is really bogus... there's nothing wrong with the drive or file. Its just that XP is now seeing a drive it believed was SATA as an IDE, and will think there is something wrong. 10 minutes spent with your original XP installation disk will 'repair" it, but that's a lot different from the "plug and play" advertised. 3. There is a jumper on the device that is undocumented. Moving it will disable one of the SATA inputs, though the manufacturer says it's an "unused" jumper. Customer service, by the way, will never get to your phone call. You can reach them on line via a chat window, assuming you have a second computer to chat with them, but expect a LONG wait. 4. If you use this, especially for your main boot drive, AND manage to get it to boot, expect very long boot and drive access times. I'm not sure which takes longer... booting, or waiting on customer service. Finally, you can find clones of these on various auction sites much cheaper (MUCH cheaper) if you're willing to wait on overseas delivery. I've tried a few and they don't work any better, but since their performance is at best useful in an emergency, or maybe for rudimentary tasks like disk wiping / erasing, I'd rather pay the lesser amount. I thought paying a little more would make for a better product, but I guess the design premise itself is flawed. In any case, I'm returning mine for a refund.

I bought it strictly to be able to 'wipe' a pair of SATA drives before selling them. It worked fine. Plugged it into an IDE socket on the mobo and it took right off without any additional intervention.
