    • A. This is separate from the filter and pump. You must have a pump and filter running at the same time for the salter system to work!

    • A. This is not a pump. This is an ionizing system that changes salt into chlorine. It goes inline between your pool filter pump and your pool.

I have read many reviews for many systems, does this use just normal table salt or do I need to get a special kind of salt?

    • A. You buy swimming pool salt in 40lb bags from most diy stores /walmart/target etc for about $6-7. I use 3 bags (120lbs) for our 5000 gallon pool. Table salt would cost you more than your pool !!!!!

    • A. This uses a pure salt that can be purchased at any pool supply store. My local Leslies Pool Supply sell 40lb bags for nine buck a bag. My 15' x 48" pool needed 100lbs. Seems like a lot, but you would be surprised, I was.

    • A. The old chlorine will evaporate, you don't need to refill. Just add the salt, let it disolve overnight and then run the system

    • A. I had same question. Just hook up the system without turning it on, pour in recommended amount of salt (mine took 100lbs), stir it around and leave your pump/filter on for 24 hours. Then turn on the salt system and forget it. Also take out any floating chemical/conditioner tablets, you don't need them anymore. The liquid chlorine will dissipate over a few days, no need to drain. The system produces a natural type of chlorine that can still be measured with the standard test kits.

    • A. You do not have to empty the pool. Add the req'd amount of salt, then test to make sure between 2500 - 3500ppm, 3000ppm is the best. Also be sure to test your PH and metals.

    • A. The Chlorinator has a sensor to let you know when and if to add salt. Also has low flow sensor so you know when to change pump filter. The unit converts salt to chlorine so will more than likely add some salt. No more burning eyes from this system.

We have now had this for about a month. Easy set up. Salt mixed in the pool perfectly. We do often get a high salt reading when the pool water level gets low, but we just add water and the reading goes away. I am not about high matenience thing... This by far is not.!!! We had a couple slow flow readings but that was due to the paper filter needing to be changed. This thing tells you need to do. Easy as pie. If you want to make it super easy, buy a Sand Filter too!! We just did and for the last 2 weeks I have had to back wash the sand filter once!! (thats how you clean it) The combination of these two have made out 16ft by 48" pool crystal clear!!! not one problem with the water!!! The water was just as clear with the orinal pump filter system that came with out pool, but its a hassel to keep changing the paper filter. Even after a few days of rain, we did not do anything to the pool and it maintaned perfectly! We spend mych more time swimming than worring about chemicals!

I'm fixing to be on my 3rd system in 3 months, the first one arrived and wouldn't turn on at all, i refused to wait for Intex to send me a new one so i exchanged it for another one which worked GREAT, it's been a few days shy of 3 months and the water has been crystal clear, i put salt in it at the beginning and just had to add a little more a few weeks ago, haven't used any other chemicals including shock treatments. Today i went out and the display has quit working, again it won't turn on at all, so i called Intex and they are sending out a new one. I love the system when it works, we have an 18 x 48 pool, we are using the 1500 gallon pump that came with it and it all has been great for the whole summer besides the saltwater system operational issues. the system is simple to use, i had no problems getting it going and the one time i had to add salt it let me know, i would highly recommend it IF they can get these quality control issues fixed because i am beyond annoyed with having to go through 3 in one summer.

I bought this system at the end of last summer on clearance to use the following year on our 18' x 4' Intex pool. I've had a pool all my life and have owned a couple different Intex pools over the past 7 years which require a little more wrestling with chemicals than the hardwalled above ground pools. Was a bit skeptical and concerned I'd waste my money since I wouldn't be able to return after so much time passed. Filled the pool, added 100 lbs of purified salt (at $9 for 40 lbs), and held our breath... fearing we'd have to drain the pool if it didn't work. I followed the directions and waited a day to allow the salt to completely dissolve before turning the system on. Based on our actual gallons in the pool, programmed the system to run 5 hours then hit boost to bring up the chlorine level. I tested the water every day for about a week and now test once or twice a week. It's been 4 weeks and haven't looked back since - I mean really... we've added NO chemicals... no PH +/-, no shock, no alkalinity +/-. When they say Krystal Clear.... they mean Krystal Clear. Normally by now, we have cloudy or green water at least once and have spent countless hours adding and adjusting chemicals to get it back to clear. Our water has never looked this good and the kids love it. the salt water doesn't irritate their eyes like the regular chlorinated pools. I love this system - it makes pool maintenance a breeze. One thing to note, be sure to read the directions thoroughly. Had I not read the directions I would have missed that the level of chlorine should only be between .4 and 1.5 instead of the normal 1 - 3 ppm. I highly recommend this product.

I LOVE my salt water system -- I will never go back to the old way again. My skin feel so soft -- even after being in the pool for hours. When they say let the filter system run for 24 hours before starting your system, they really mean a FULL 24 hours. I ran mine for about 20 hours and ended up with salt buildup on the plates, which cause the system to give me an incorrect reading on the salt level in the water. I disconnect the hoses, put the end caps on, and then soak the plates in vinegar for about an hour. But, after that, everything was working great again. (Customer Service was wonderful and very helpful) I purchased salt pellets from my local grocery store for about $4.50 for 40lbs. The pellets were half what the regular salt would have cost me, and all I had to do was use my pool brush to push the pellets around the pool floor (about 1/2 hr) until they dissolved. I have an Intex 20X48 pool.

I think this works very well! You have to follow all the instructions as with any unit. We do not have to add anything but salt to the pool and it keeps the water very clear. We purchased the Intex sand filter to hook up to it and that works awesome too, no more buying paper filters!
