I bought the Ziplock Vacuum Starter Kit to replace my battery-chomping Reynolds Handi-Vac food storage system. The Reynolds bags were becoming difficult to find and that's not the case with Ziplock. It's less expensive, available, and just as effective for sealing and storing food.

I love the procuct but couldn't find the bags after I purchaced the procucts. It is so neat. I can reseal the bags even when I have taken an item from them. And I put my lettuce in the gags and seal and don't loose any lettuce anymore. It is really great.

Is the bag valve a design that will hold closed if the bag is moved, or something rubs against it? I'm looking for an inexpensive and light-weight water/air-tight bag for water-proofing various smaller non-food back-pack items, and I'm concerned about the valve leaking at some point after sealing and evacuating air from the bag. The back-pack is stored in a heavy diesel truck, off-road service, where it will be subjected to a rough ride all day long, 4-seasons, 5 days/week, and I'm hoping for 4-6 months of service from these bags before needing to replace due to abrasion/wear. I already have heavy-duty vinyl roll-top dry bags, but need additional protection for certain items I need to store for easier and faster access than the large dry-bags can offer, and need a reliable water-tight storage system. Even if the bags wear-out in 2-3 months, will the valve hold-up? Thoughts?

    • THE BAGS DON'T HOLD THE SEAL FOR MORE THAN A WEEK. I even tried sealing the pump seal and zip-lock ends with 2 inch transparent tape. BAGS STILL LEAK AIR. THESE ARE A WASTE OF MONEY. I think the good reviews came from people who did not wait to see how well these hold.

    • I purchase a starter kit to pack items for scout outings. Out of the three bags in the base kit, only one held a vacuum for 24 hours laying flat on an ironing board. With results like this I would think twice about any long term durability.

    • The bags do not always stay sealed. It seems that the smaller the item, the better the seal. I would say it works about 50 percent of the time.

    • i am not real sure but i do not think they will be strong enough for that type usage i would try space lock bags or the really big bags by ziplock
