In 1997, while working on the set of "7th Heaven," Dr. Laura would bring snacks to the set from time to time and was inspired to make her snacks available on a large scale when she noticed that some of the truck drivers on the set were actually eating her cookies for breakfast instead of donuts This passion for healthy and great tasting food led to Laura's Wholesome Junk Food, est. 2001. Her wholesome "junk foods" are distributed nationally in Whole Foods and Harris Teeters as well as numerous health food stores.

An introduction explaining the importance of eating healthy and promoting a healthy lifestyle and two full-color photographic inserts complement the text. Each chapter includes a sidebar with nutritional and cooking tips.

This book is amazing. As someone who has been trying to sift through all of the information out there about how to eat, what to eat etc, the complicated approach most books have taken made it difficult to build a clear understanding and foundation. Dr. Trice is perhaps the best communicator I have ever read on the topic of food, health and healthy choices. I now know how to read food labels, make different choices to stock my refrigerator and order differently in restaurants. As a guy looking to get in better shape and who has with a sweet tooth, I first became a fan of Laura's Wholesome Junk Food. Having now eaten the cinnamon rolls, the haystacks, the home-made fudge sauce on home-made ice-cream from recipes in The Wholesome Junk Food Cookbook, I'm a believer. Another favorite is the chocolate banana smoothie - simple and amazing with just milk, cocoa, and a ripe banana. So good. I've served that smoothie to guests for dessert and everyone wanted to see more made because they loved it and wanted to learn how to make it. This book belongs in every household in America looking to understand health, food and nutrition better while enjoying treats and snacks. This book is for every person who loves sweets but wants to be healthy.
