My wife & I love this passport potty. It's just the right height, & holds more than most other porta potties. Plus the drain tube tucks away under the toilet & makes it so easy to empty or disposable bags make transfer easy, & no smell using the liquid gold(deodorizer).

I bought this product to use at long term wilderness campsites. It is light and convenient to pack. The simplicity of dumping makes clean up an easy job!! The price paid for this unit is well worth the value.

Excellent flushing action. Good water spay to clean bowl. Seat is rather small and seat has corners instead of the traditinal oval seat. Corners can hurt legs.

    • Yes, it came with a single-use bottle (4 oz) of Liquid Gold concentrated toilet deodorizer but I haven't tried it. The bottle says to pour it into the holding tank, add 1 quart of water and agitate to mix. I really like the Walex Porta-Paks, which are small and very handy pellets/sachets of toilet deodorizer. You just drop one in the holding tank and add little water to activate. It has a very pleasant smell, is effective, and you get 10 in a pack.

    • Yes, mine came with a bottle of deodrizer. I had also bought some packets from Amazon, which I used instead. So I do not know how well the product that came with it works.

Does this unit use chemicals? If so, how much does this add to the cost of the unit? I'm comparing composting toilets to something like the Global Passport for my cabin. This looks like it'll meet the need but I did want to review the chemical piece of these units. Thanks for your comments.

    • We are using an enzyme treatment at 2 oz per tank fill. The treatment has a total of 64 oz cost us about $9.00. This will cost you about 28 cents per tank fill.

    • I buy the Walex Porta-Paks. You put one pellet/sachet in the tank at at time. There are 10 in a pack and it costs about $10 for the pack. They work very well for breaking down waste and controlling odor.

    • Yes you need to use the chemicals to keep the order down and to take care of the solid waste. The cost varies we buy ours from Ace Hardware and Walmart For 16 oz maybe less than $15. That would last for a while but it depends how often it fills up and you clean it out to use more. I would think you could get 4 uses from a 16 oz bottle.

    • I bought the Campa Chem chemical liquid at walmart , 64 oz. breaks down waste and deodorizes , i think i payed 10 bucks or less but i bought other deodorizes when i bought it . That 64 oz jug should last for some time .

    • Yes, it does use chemicals. I just picked up a container from Walmart that is good for 16 treatments for under $6.

    • I use "Campa Chem" for this unit. It's a fantastic deodorant and it breaks down solids very well. I get it in a box with six 8oz. bottles in it. This costs about ten bucks and lasts me at least 2 months. Before I bought the GP 4.8, I had the smaller 8L for the last few years. This is why I'm sure about the Campa Chem product.

    • You can use chemicals, I used coleman portable toilet deoderizor and it was 7$ for a bottle that lasted the entire 12 day trip with a little to bring home. You would add 2 ounces to the top portion. I also added a little to the holdong tank too.

How many days is it good before you absolutely have to clean it out? We are going on a camping trip for 4 days, will it be ok till we get home or will we need to do it sooner?
    by an anonymous customer 6/30/2011
    • You will need to clean it out much sooner than 4 days. Depending on how many are using and how often.
      by DunhamFan3/6/2014
Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • It should be fine for four days, depending on how much use it gets. We just went on a trip for three days with 2 adults and 4 children using it. We probably could have gotten another day out of it at the rate it was being used, but it would have been very near its capacity.

    • If you are talking about two people using this size of a portable toilet it will last much longer than 4 days. We owned a 2 1/2 gal size and it lasted us 3 days before we had to empty it. So you will be ok with this one.

    • My wife, three girls (under 10) and I managed to fill a quarter of the waste tank during our 4 day trip to Lake Mohave. We could have gone an easy 7 days without worrying about the waste tank. The clean water holding tank was also about 3/4 full. This unit is sealed up really well so you do not have to clean it until you get home. I would recommend you buy a bottle of portable toilet solution to help with any odors.

    • I've gone only a week at the most before I had to empty it out. Even then, all I could smell was the Campa Chem deodorant I use. Beyond that, how often you empty it depends on the amount of use it gets.

    • I have been using it Saturday/Sunday while sailing. With a small crew (2) it would last four days, but I had a crew of six one weekend and had to stop to empty on Sunday morning.
