Rated 4 out of 5 by nightbirdie Very good product, if you don't have rocks around. Within a few minutes of starting to use the tiller, a rock about the size of a medium potato got wedged between the blades, the center post and the back shield. It took me nearly an hour, using a stone chisel to break off enough of the stone in order to push it out without damaging the unit. Once it was removed, however, the machine operated fine in very hard, compressed, dry soil which has never been cultivated. There were a lot of rocks under the ground, so I had to back off the tiller and remove them as they were uncovered, so it did take a while to do the small area, approximately 3 feet by 15 feet, I chose to replant some potted flowers.Without this tool, I'd probably still be trying to get a shovel into the ground there after five days. Once we raked out the rocks and stones, we filled the area with new topsoil and Miracle Gro, which I mixed in with the tiller, and it was ready for planting. Afterward, I used the rocks and stones to make a border around the edge of the new garden. This machine works differently than I had expected and gave my arms a real workout going through that hard dirt on an angle, as it tended to 'buck' every now and then, but it did what I wanted it to do and saved me days of fighting with a shovel and the bending involved in moving the dirt aside. In two hours or less, I had the soil prepared and ready to plant. If it wasn't for all the rocks involved, I'd probably have been done in less than an hour.I may now till another section of ground on the end of the house and go buy some more plants as this new garden makes my new home look so much better than it was. 08/05/2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by gardenwarlord Does what is says Obviously not for heavy tilling of a new garden but works great for turning up soil from last years garden and flower beds. Has plenty or torque to power thru those rocky soils too! A must have for an average gardener/ light /can hang on the wall /easy set up /easy clean up. 05/14/2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by DIYBetty Just what I wanted This little tiller was easy to assemble & did a good job turning my 35'x84' vegetable garden. We went over it twice as there were a lot of weeds. It cultivated down to a depth of 6" & produced a fine tilth. Our soil is sandy & had been previously cultivated. The only drawback is having to drag a long extension cord behind you & be careful not to run over it. If you can live with this & only need to till a relatively small area of light (not compacted) soil, this little machine will do a good job & save you many hours of digging.Compared to gas powered tillers this one is very quiet, much lighter & easier to move around, needs little maintenance other than brushing the dust off after use & is only a fraction of the price. An ideal tool for the home gardener. 03/15/2010
