A life changing read If you are looking for a magic pill. The magic 7 minute abs... the wondrous new gadget to magically melt away the pounds and make you look like the size 0 woman in the commercials.Well this is not the book for you. Good luck finding it.This books offers you a real solution to obesity and a structure to live a healthy life. I have followed The Spark’s lessons for 6 months now. I found the amazing website first (sparkpeople.com) and then found the book. By the time I first read the book I had already lost 62 pounds!!!! I was 343 pounds at my heaviest. I weighed in Monday at 241. That’s right 102 pounds simply gone. I owe all the thanks to Chris’s way of living and his teachings, encouragement and mentality. The Spark is structured as a 28 day plan. The steps are small, almost imperceptible to an average yo-yo dieter. But those steps crisscross and inner mingle with one another that by the end of the 28 days, your foundation to living a healthy fulfilling life with your friends and family is second nature.Buy this book. FINALLY! Get The Spark... it works! As a (nearly 4 year) member of Sparkpeople.com and a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer (A certification I sought thanks in part to the motivation and encouragement I’ve received from my Spark Friends) I highly recommend The Spark to anyone seeking to live a healthier life. I am using this book in a weight management class I lead at my local YMCA. As an avid reader on the topics of self-improvement and fitness, I find The Spark to be well written and full of inspiration!! Chris Downey so adequately relays the message that fitness is much more than reaching a number on a scale. I thank Chris and the Sparkpeople team for promoting balance and bringing to the attention of those who will read it, the need for community support (relationship building) and understanding the role a person’s values and belief system have in leading them to the daily practices it takes to achieve success. As they GRADUALLY walk themselves one step at a time to a healthier life, so many who have joined the Sparkpeople site have finally found the answer to how to make fitness a part of who they are and how they do life. It’s refreshing to see this laid out in an easy to follow plan in the book. Success stories are shared by many in The Spark and even more online. This is truly a “breakthrough”, bringing to light the reality that achieving fitness is so much more than just following a “diet” which far too often leads only to a temporary fix. Better than I expected sparkpeople.com has a good community and resources. I was expecting more of the same in the book The Spark with a little diet do's and don'ts thrown in. It's all that and more with founder Chris Downie's personal story laid out for all to read. It's warm and encouraging and truly lights a 'Spark.' 03/21/2010
