Book Information

The following content was provided by the publisher.

Last week they invaded Manhattan. This week they will destroy the world.

The vampiric virus is spreading and soon will envelop the globe. Amid the chaos, Eph Goodweather--head of the Centers for Disease Control's team--leads a band out to stop these bloodthirsty monsters. But it may be too late.

Ignited by the Master's horrific plan, a war has erupted between Old and New World vampires. Caught between these warring forces, powerless and vulnerable, humans find themselves no longer the consumers but the consumed. At the center of the conflict lies an ancient text that contains the vampires' entire history . . . and their darkest secrets. Whoever finds the book can control the outcome of the war and, ultimately, the fate of us all.

About the author

Biography of Hogan, Chuck

Chuck Hogan is an American author. He is the author of Prince of Thieves: A Novel, a work which Ben Affleck's Academy Award-nominated film The Town in 2010 is based on. The work won the 2005 Hammett Prize and was called one of the ten best novels of the year by Stephen King. He is also the co-author of a trilogy of vampire novels with Guillermo del Toro. His title The Night Eternal: Book III of The Strain Trilogy made Publisher's Weekly Best Seller List for 2011.

Review by Library Journal (2010-09-01)

The writer/director of Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy and Hogan pair up again for the follow-up to their best-selling debut, The Strain. A vampiric virus has conquered New York City and threatens to spread across the country and around the world. CDC team leader Eph Goodweather takes to the streets to combat these savage creatures who are locked in their own war. The Old World Ancients are raging against the New World vampires in a grudge match to dominate the planet. Driving this conflict is the Master, a clever and astute orchestrator of chaos.

Verdict: Fast-paced, action-packed, and even better than the first volume, this fun and scary read is highly recommended for thriller and horror fans. Newcomers to the trilogy will have no trouble following the story line. Buy multiple copies.
