    Hamilton Beach Toaster

    Customer review by LynBR

This product is ever thing I wanted. It allows me to do frozen, bagels and toast and control the toasting. Best part is the removable crumb tray. No more holding toaster over the sink to clean out the crumbs at the bottom. No more toaster oven that never toasted evenly.

This is the first toaster I have used in 48 years of marriage that actually does what it's supposed to do. The settings work well, the automatic features are really neat and the variety of breads toasted come out beautifully.

I bought this toaster based on other peoples reviews. It hasn't disappointed me. I have only used it to toast english muffins (using the bagel setting) so far and they have always come out very close to perfect. I have no reason to believe that bread would not toast just as well. Very happy with this product.

Read a review on another site that said that the outside does get warm, but how warm? Hot enough to burn or melt something if touching it? I have limited counter space so often things might be pushed up against my toaster.
    by ppost02 7/18/2010
    • I put it on the highest setting which is 5 and put my hands on each side. It does seem to get a little warmer towards the top of the sides but not enough to burn me or other appliances. I also have limited counter space. Mine is right next to my coffee pot.

    • I have such limited counter space that it's one of the primary reasons I bought this two-slice toaster. It fits easily into a corner and doesn't get too hot to touch. I'm not sure who would have said it got warm because it's the same as any other toaster I've ever owned. The only thing that might burn the fingers is the toast when it pops up. It's good and hot and brown all over.

    • After one use (toast in the morning) the outside gets warm but not hot enough to burn you or melt anything. If you ran it through multiple cycles it might get hot but I haven't used it in that way.

    • Nope. Just slightly warm like if the sun was shining on it for a few minutes. Not hot at all, not warm enough to melt anything or burn you. I bet I could slap a piece of cheese on the side of it and it wouldn't even come close to melting. Hope this helps.

    • It does get warm especially at the top of the toaster. However I can place the palms of my hands on each side of the toaster immediately and move it elsewhere with no problem at all. No it wouldn't burn anything although it may soften a stick of butter especially near the top. The lower 2/3 of the toaster isn't warm at all.

    • The sides get slightly warm, but no where near hot enough to burn anything. It can be picked up easily while toasting. The very top panel does get hot though.

    • Very safe,. Don't worry about a plastic bread bag being up against the sides.

    • The outside of mine has not yet gotten hot but perhaps if it was used for 3 or 4 cycles in a row it might get warm. I wouldn't think enough to burn anything. Mostly I only use it for 2 cycles at a time and it doesn't even get warm with that. Just don't touch the top that does get hot.

    • I would pull it out away from anything else when you're toasting...this goes for any other toaster you may have. Having things resting against it while operating is a fire hazard in the making.

Does it have the extra lift feature? Does it fit wide slices of bread?
    by an anonymous customer 9/17/2010
    • I don't know what estra life features are, as for wide bread slices the bread I use is wide loaf (it doesn't fit in moth other toasters (each slice is same thickness, as 'tall' but about an incn wider)). Also it is set up for begals. Some Begals are 1/4 on one side, 3/4 on the other side and it is set for thickly cut begals. I think that answers the question depending on how how read it for understanding. it is made for thickness in 2 directions.

    • The slots are about 1 1/2 inch wide. The bread I use is pretty thick.

    • Thank you for your question. Yes, this unit does have the lift feature. It does have extra wide slots approximately 1.50" wide.

    • Yes, it does have an extra lifter, though it isn't advertised with the product. So far I haven't lost any toast inside the appliance. The lifter pushes it up so I can get a hold of it. The slots are big enough for bagels or extra thick slices.

    • You can pull up further on the handle after toast pops up, enough to get a bagel or muffin out. Slots are plenty wide enough for both

    • Yes to both questions. Once it pops up, you can lift the lever and the toast will rise a little more so you can grab it. The slots are very wide. They fit even the fattest of bagels.

    • There is not a lift feature. I use tongs to remove my long French bread. I insert my long bread at a slant and it works fine. The slots are 1 1/2 by 5 1/2

    • It lifts an english muffin high enough to grab hold of and it accomidates a slice of Arnolds rye bread but it wouldn't go much wider than that.

Not the width. like wide enough for Bagels etc. I use Walmart Market bread and it's wide. Not thick. Wide. Will it fit in this toaster??

    • This toaster excepts LONG and WIDE toast, as well as extra thick bagels. It handles thick slices of French Bread hand cut from a commercially baked loaf of French Bread.

    • It goes in at an angle, but it toasts OK. The Italian WM market bread can be too flat (not tall) so this is good.

    • The slots are 1 1/2 by 5 1/5. My bread is too long but I insert it at a slant. The toaster is designed more for "square" shaped bread.
