The Back to Basics Egg & Muffin Toaster has replaced my husband's $4+ per day fast food habit. It is very easy to use, works well, and makes breakfast quickly for one or both of us. The recommended amount of water for a single egg cooked to medium seems to be a little on the low side, as the yolk comes out runny on 2 1/2 Tbs of water, but that is a minor adjustment. I found that ~3 1/4 Tbs makes the yolk firm without cooking it to death. I use 4 1/2 Tbs for two eggs, as recommended in the instructions, and this works perfectly. I also purchase WalMart's hash brown patties (cooked separately on the stovetop) to complete the meal and my husband loves it! Having the egg, sausage, and muffin finish at the same time without constant attendance makes this great for busy moms, singles, and kids! I heartily recommend this to replace fast food breakfasts as it is much cheaper and faster!

THIS IS THE GREATEST PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IN MY KITCHEN. I AM A BACHELOR AND THOUGH I DON'T MIND DOING DISHES, WHY DO THEM WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO. THIS IS AN EASY CLEAN. I USE IT DAILY AND SOMETIMES A COUPLE TIMES A DAY. EVERYONE WHO HAS SEEN IT IS VERY IMPRESSED. I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS OR CRITICSM WHATSOEVER. THE TIMING OF THE EGGS ALONG W/ THE TOAST IS A MARVELOUS IDEA. I DROP IN TWO EGGS, LOAD A SLICE OF BREAD, LEAVE THE ROOM TO START THE PC NEVER HAVING TO GIVE IT A THOUGHT. I HEAR THE TOAST POP, HEAD TO THE KITCHEN, PUT IT ON A PLATE AND EAT. IT'S THAT SIMPLE. MY BEST BUY YET.

After reading lots of reviews for many toasters, we bought this because of the egg thingy. We are not disappointed. The eggs come out great and our kids love it. We were worried that the toaster may be hot to the touch (because it wasn't stated otherwise), but it DOES have cool sides after toasting, so no worries there for your kiddies. The toast comes out well depending on the setting you use. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for a few reasons: (1) Smaller bread (i.e. English Muffins and Wonder Bread) does not pop up as high as you would like, so either stick your fingers in the slots, or raise the toasting button by hand to get the bread out. No big deal, but I would have preferred if they all were high enough to grab without extra effort. (2) Using the egg & toast feature is cool, but the bread does not always toast properly on this setting. We have better results cooking the eggs first, then toasting the english muffins. (3) It's really big. Our counter is full! (4) This is not a problem with the toaster, but worth mentioning - sausage patties are EXPENSIVE!!! They average over $1.00 each in a box of 6 at our grocery store. So we have opted to go without the sausage and just use egg, muffin and cheese. (5) Using the toaster alone is a bit slow (compared to our last toaster.) Good points: (1) Eggs cook GREAT! (2) Not too hard to clean. Nice removable trays for the crumbs. (3) Our kids LOVE it! (This is also possibly a bad point for us - they want egg sandwiches every day now!) (4) Toast is even and controls are accurate. (5) It's really cool. Did I say that already? (6) The cool touch sides are inportant for us with our kids. (7) It's easy to use. Our 7 year old can make the eggs himself. He feels so happy to be a little chef! Also, the Walmart "Site-to-store" was pretty good. We ordered it online on a Tuesday afternoon and it was ready for pickup the following Tuesday at our store. Just so you know - be sure to run the toaster once without any toast in it to get rid of the smell that comes with each new unit. We didn't read those instructions when we got it and our first set of toast was rather, ummmm, smelly. Also, don't put your cheese on the top rack. It will melt too much and make a mess. Rather.....either remove the egg and toast after cooking and then put the cheese on the egg (it will melt pretty good anyway), .....or, break up the cheese slice into four little squares and place each square on top of the egg in the egg pan after the egg has finished cooking. Make sure to use cooking spray. We use Crisco Butter non-stick Spray and it's great. Makes the eggs more yummy, too. Here's a link to that product: http://www.crisco.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?GroupID=16&ProdID=314&gclid=CKuBn9Dr4qgCFSU6gwodaDnuCQ We are very picky shoppers, so if you are on the fence trying to decide if this is for you, I say, go ahead and pick one up. You won't be sorry.

I have owned 3 of the smaller version of this Egg & Muffin toaster. I rated the durability at a 4 because we've had to replace ours every year, but the value has been worth buying a new one every time. I was thrilled to find this 4 slice version at Wal-mart and for more than twenty dollars cheaper than Lowes and other retailers. I love being able to hard boil 8 eggs at once without bringing out a pan, waiting for the pot to boil, etc. Making breakfast sandwiches saves us $2.50 a sami, and with a family of 6 this really ads up the savings. It's also nice to be able to toast 4 pieces at a time, and even bagels! It's easy for my children, 8-13, to use, and it cleans up easily. I've recommended this product to many of my friends and family. It's such a versatile and useful kitchen appliance!

I've been wanting one of these since they came out, and recently my toaster died so I finally got one. love this thing. It defrosts stuff out of the freezer, toasts extremely well and thoroughly, the eggs come out great, and the whole timing thing between toasting and preparing the eggs couldn't work better. It's easy to clean, easy to operate, and makes a perfect egg mcmuffin.

So I bought this with the intention of making myself breakfast at home before going to work. After testing it out at home I brought it into work (mechanic at car dealership). It became an instant hit with all the guys in the shop. Now I'm cooking breakfast for the whole shop. Anyone can operate it, its extremely easy to clean, and it perfectly hard boils eggs. SPEND THE MONEY, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG

Walmart got this to me in 2 amazing days...I couldn't wait to try it out. It's fantastic how the toast/muffins and eggs are timed to the "T". Made the perfect egg mcmuffin. Wanted to show it off to a friend, and the egg side didn't work. Horror!! I remembered reading in the book to call them before returning it to the store, so I did. She apologized a gazillion times and said a replacement was on the way. Now I'm thinking, yea and I have to send it back...but she said when the replacement arrived, to just cut the cord from the old one. It still toasts perfectly. So the company really stands behind the product which is great to know. It does come with a one year warranty. Can't wait for it to get here...what an ingenious idea!! Oh yea, clean up was a breeze!

    • A. The book says "fill the measuring cup. . . or add 2 to 2-1/2 tablespoons of water directly into the heating tray". Use 2 tbsp for soft, runny center, 2-1/2 for partially-cooked center, and 3 tbsp for a fully-cooked center. It also gives a variety of different amounts if you are trying to HARD cook your eggs. What I gave you is for POACHING. Hope this helps!! :)
