Fantastic Game!

Despite all of the things you will hear about this game from the increase in price from $50 to $60, and the removal of PC Dedicated Servers for Multiplayer, the game is still 100% worth every single penny. All $60 is extremely well spent, and the Campaign Single-Player of this game is worth that $60 alone. The Single-Player Campaign blew me away. It is quite short, can be completed from anywhere between 4-7 hours depending on the difficulty and your play style, but it is filled with some of the greatest maps and action-packed sequences I've ever played from Airports to Snow-mobiles to Washington D.C to City Streets. The Multiplayer aspect has changed, and now relies on P2P-style Matchmaking, like Xbox Live games are, but it does work quite well. If they would have included dedicated servers, this would be rated 5 stars across the board. Still, it's definitely worth the money, and the included Spec Ops mode is also more for you to get your moneys worth. Don't listen to the people boycotting this game and looking immature, it's one of the greatest FPS games I've played since Half-Life 2.

Amazing

This game is amazing. While the story mode is short (only about 10 hours of gameplay), it is jam packed with beautiful level design and a gripping story. I had my concerns about the multiplayer from what I read about online. Generally, the PC gamming community was irate at Infinity Ward's blunder of stripping server access and mod ability in favor of their steam-like net server. However, as I soon found out, these are really minor issues. I enjoy the smaller 8 v 8 maps as they allow you the opportunity to plan your attack instead of just running and gunning. I find the multi-player a great next step for the COD series, even with its server shortcomings. If you value FPS's, the COD series, or CPU gaming in general, this is a must have. Oh, and Walmart had the best price (as usual) giving me a $20 gift card for buying on-line which allowed the wife to buy some Christmas gifts. In other words, Walmart helped me butter up my wife for this purchase. Thanks guys.

I'll not go into great details about the specifics of this game, but I would like to dispel the rumors. While the PC community does have a valid reason for being upset with Infinity Ward leaving out support for dedicated servers, that should not keep you from seriously looking at this game. The campaign, spec ops, and multiplayer are solid, well made and extreamly fun to play. I highly suggest this game, you won't be disappointed. Please keep in mind this game is intended for mature players, as this is very graphic.

To me the controls are hard because I'm use to xbox360. Though it is easy once you get use to it. Very fun online and on story mode. Cooler that you can choose different controls for movement and shooting. Highly recommended.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a great game overall, for the console, or, for a console gamer. However, the PC version for this installment, seems to reject all notion of what PC gamers want, and instead focused on making it more like the console version. The game itself is great, single player is fun and challenging, in-game multiplayer is what you'd expect, you're just missing out on all of the regular PC advantages. Every CoD game before this one (along with every other FPS on the market) has used dedicated servers to host their games. This version does not, and it really ruins the entire experience for most PC gamers. The upsides of playing on the PC were abundant. You would have the ability to choose whichever server you want, and those servers could be modded, and adminned. Hacking is all an issue on IWnet (Infinty Wards hosting server). The software that they have in place now to stop hacking is pathetic in comparison to Punkbuster. All in all, if you want to get this game, get it on a console, because either way you're going to get a console experience. Every PC gamer is bawling, this could have been the greatest online FPS for the PC. Instead, we're all still play CoD 4, TF2, or CS:S.

Great FPS Experience with Replayability

This review comes in two parts, the first has some spoilers and deals with the single player campaign and the second deals with the multiplayer campaigns. Single Player (SPOILERS): My opinion is that MW and MW2 comprise one of the best plots that the first-person genre has seen thus far and that's really saying something. Infinity Ward has done a masterful job integrating the events of MW1 into the series of escalating conflicts you will find yourself engaged in. Old heroes return (Soap MacTavish, Captain Price, and Gaz makes a vocal return in the form of the character Ghost) and new villains step in to pick up right where MW1 left off. Like MW1, your campaign progresses in separate story threads that follow individuals battling on the frontlines. Events unfold in locations such as remote Kazhakstan, a Russian airport (the controversial "No Russian" mission with content so severe the developers offer players the option to not partake in it directly) and the eerie streets of a besieged Washington DC. There's something really awesome (and bothersome) in the act of a violent battle to retake a destroyed White House that players really must experience for themselves to really appreciate. Multiplayer: Much hoopla has been made over the lack of support for dedicated servers, forcing players to rely on spotty third-party programs such as Steam and Valve to run your games for you in P2P fashion (ask anyone who watched their 23-straight-kills streak go up in flames thanks to a bad host and they'll agree). On the flipside, the combat is still a great deal of fun and the replayability of the maps included with the game is startling. Players have a multitude of weapon and equipment options, achievements and match types to occupy themselves, along with the optional Prestige modes for the hardest of the hardcore. Also worth mentioning is the Spec Ops campaigns...a series of challenges that test one to two players in various combat situations of varying difficulty. Clear the bad guys off of a bridge under siege, snipe your way through a field of camoflauged snipers, or tackle an airfield loaded with heavily-armored Juggernaut units...there's something for everyone with MW2.

Wait for Black Ops

I bought this near the beginning of summer because I was bored and I noticed it was only 37 dollars shipped. All I can say is if your getting this game expect everyone to be level 70 and prestige icons are the only way to really determine some sort of level. I am constantly joining hacked rooms that I do not want to join, but I get brought there anyway because of the wonder IWNET determining my destination. I miss the dedicated servers I don't care what Infinity Ward is saying about them. Worst COD game ever and I would not buy again. I'm so glad I didn't pay retail price on it and I hope they learned a lot from the feedback of this game. If I could sum this game up in one concept, this would be the "Vista" of COD. Hopefully Black Ops will be good or my faith is lost in this franchise.

I pre-ordered the game, when I heard there wasn't going to be dedicated servers I thought of canceling the order. I wish I had now! Playing with STEAM online there doesn't appear to be any defense against hackers. IW decided that we PC players wanted to be more like the console players. They are so very sadly mistaken! With "Punk Buster" and dedicated servers the hackers can be kept under control, and the rest of us could enjoy what could be a fantastic game!

Bought 2 of this online during a sale for about $60 after applying a $10 gift card to cover taxes and shipping. Awesome first person shooter. Great story! Achievements and challenges give you lots to do. Campaign is not co-op unfortunately. Asides from online play there is a Special Ops play which can be co-op. Multi-player online has achievements too and a cool level up style allowing for custom classes on top of the default sniper, scout, heavy, etc. options. Playing more online unlocks more customizable weapons, etc.

My son plays these games online with his computer and says there has to be a code so he can interactively play the game with other online users. I have not clue. He says a code is needed. Does this game come with a code to use online? Thanks
by gamermom222 2/6/2010
4 answers
  • A. Gamermom, I believe the code your son is referring to is the Activation Code that is included with every store bought copy of Modern Warfare 2. Activation Codes are a common technique game publishers are using these days to combat piracy and theft. Inside the game's case, there should have been a booklet. On the back cover of that booklet is the game's Activation Code. Before your son can install the game, he would have to input this code to validate his copy. If this booklet is missing or no code was included, your best course of action would be to exchange your son's copy of Modern Warfare 2 for another. Hope this answers your question!
