    Movie Description

The following content was provided by the publisher.

"Star Trek I: The Motion Picture": When an unidentified alien destroys three powerful Klingon cruisers, Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) returns to the newly transformed U.S.S. Enterprise(TM) to take command. Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and the cast from the acclaimed original Star Trek(TM) television series mobilize at warp speed to stop the alien intruder from its relentless flight toward Earth. "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan": It is the 23rd century. The Federation starship U.S.S. Enterprise is on routine training maneuvers, and Admiral James T. Kirk seems resigned to the fact that this inspection may well be the last space mission of his career. But Khan is back. Aided by his exiled band of genetic supermen, Khan (Ricardo Montalban) - brilliant renegade of 20th century Earth - has raided Space Station Regula One, stolen a top secret device called Project Genesis, wrested control of another Federation starship, and now schemes to set a most deadly trap for his old enemy Kirk...with the threat of a universal Armageddon. "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock": Admiral Kirk's defeat of Khan and the creation of the Genesis planet are empty victories. Spock is dead and McCoy is inexplicably being driven insane. Then a surprise visit from Sarek, Spock's father, providing a startling revelation: McCoy is harboring Spock's living essence. With one friend alive and one not, but both in pain, Kirk attempts to help his friends by stealing the U.S.S. Enterprise and defying Starfleet's Genesis planet quarantine. But the Klingons have also learned of Genesis and race to meet Kirk in a deadly rendezvous. "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home": It's the 23rd century and a mysterious alien power is threatening Earth by evaporating the oceans and destroying the atmosphere. In a frantic attempt to save mankind, Kirk and his crew must time travel back to 1986 San Francisco where they find a world of punk, pizza and exact-change buses that are as alien as anything they've ever encountered in the far reaches of the galaxy. "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier": It's Stardate 8454.130 and a vacationing Captain Kirk faces two challenges: climbing Yosemite's El Capitan and teaching campfire songs to Spock. But vacations are cut short when a renegade Vulcan hijacks the Enterprise, and pilots it on a journey to uncover the universe's innermost secrets. "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country": After years at war, the Federation and the Klingon Empire prepare for a peace summit. But the prospect of intergalactic glasnost with sworn enemies is an alarming one to Captain Kirk. "They're animals!" he warns. When a Klingon ship is attacked and the Enterprise is held accountable, the dogs of war are unleashed again, as both worlds brace for what may be their final, deadly encounter.

HIGH DEF AT LAST Regarding the previous review in which he says that Blu-ray is only a small step-up from DVD, no one could be more wrong. Blu-ray can be absolutely stunning compared to DVD. I find that my DVD collection means little now that I am buying and renting Blu-rays...the picture is very superior and little mentioned is the new sound available on Blu-ray discs, called Lossless audio. This means that the sound you hear is exactly the same that is on the studio master tapes. DVD sound has MAJOR compression and while it sounds good, you wouldn't believe what Blu-ray can sound like. Don't listen to the naysayers, Blu-ray is vastly superior in picture and sound to DVD.That said, I think the Star Trek series looks very good. It surely is a huge improvement over the DVD versions in picture and the sound is STUNNING compared to the DVD's. You will hear every beep and noise on the Bridge, in space and anywhere else. I am hearing new sounds I never even heard on the DVD versions.Paramount has restored Star Trek 2 Khan beautifully. The picture is stunning. These are the theatrical versions. I am sure Paramount will be releasing extended editions, probably separately. But if you want what played in theaters, this is the set to get. Paramount used noise reduction to eliminate some of the grain in the film. While at times if used only slightly this can be OK, to over-do it can make people have a "plastic" looking effect. I don't see that here. These are just fine. I would say this is a great value considering how many movies are included and the price of the set. If you have not gotten into Blu-ray yet, this is a great opportunity, provided you have a high definition set. You won't believe the difference between Blu-ray and DVD. 05/16/2009
Awesome Set Wow! What a great set of Blu-Rays!-Tons and Tons of Bonus Features(hours of them)-Great Price From Walmart(More then $100 else where)-Finally Blu-Ray 09/28/2009
Finally, the Theatrical Cuts...but Blu Exclusive? Like so many companies with classic catalog movie franchises, Paramount has lovingly picked up "Star Trek"...and dropped it on its face. For starters, the versions of the films in this collection are the original Theatrical Cuts only. Those expecting the re-vamped Director's Cut of "The Motion Picture" and the extended presentations of movies "II" and "VI" will be sorely dissappointed. Don't get me wrong, I think it's important the original editions are made available and I'm excited to see them on the market. However, to not include the alternate versions previously released on DVD is a mistake that could end up costing Paramount in the end.Secondly, some of the special features from the previous DVD editions will not be included in this set. While this makes sense for those extras relating to the alternate and extended versions, some of the other missing supplements are mind-boggling. How can Blu-Ray be so superior when its discs lack the existing materials from previous DVDs?Finally, this collection is currently Blu-Ray exclusive. To exclude the DVD users (who make-up the majority of the home-video audience) is a huge error in marketing strategy. Blu-Ray is far from being the dominant home-video format, despite the hype being pumped-out by the corporate machines. And, given the facts (yes, I say "facts") that Blu-Ray still suffers from compatibility issues and is only a minor step above DVD quality (when played through a decent DVD player), Blu-Ray will probably remain "second-banana" for quite some time.Hopefully, Paramount will remedy all of the negative aspects to this collection in the near future:1) Lack of alternate versions on "The Motion Picture", "II", and "VI".2) Lack of some extras from the previous DVD Special Editions.3) Lack of a DVD release (which I find very annoying). 03/20/2009
Good collection First off let me say that ALL of these movies ARE in full Hi def. I read the other reviews and people seem to be stressing that one says restored the others say remastered. Thats because the other films didnt need "restoring". Anyway the movies look amazing and this is an outstanding collection. I like the fact that they are the original theatrical releases but think it is stupid paramount did not include the extended versions also on the disc. With the amount of data one blu-ray disc can hold there was no reason not to have both versions. The audio to me seemed a little quite, i had to turn my system up. I dont know if thats because it is in 7.1 dolby and I only have a 5.1 system or if that is just a normal occurance considering how old the movies are and how they were originally filmed. I am extremely happy with my purchase and am ecstatic to have this in my collection. I will be purchasing the others when they are released. 07/07/2009
