I just purchased (have not used) this bike beam. I am concerned the metal pin on the bike beam vibrating against the handle bar post will damage the bike. (scratch the paint) Is there a solution to that concern?

  • A. If your that worried, before using the bar, go and buy a can of liquid rubber Dip and dip each end in the can and let it dry. Dip it as many times as you feel comfortable with. You will be amazed at all the things you will dip, pliers, screw drivers ect.

  • A. I didn't notice any scratching or damage. if you're concerned, put a washcloth around the post before mounting the bar.

  • A. John, I used this product once and did not see (I did not look) any scratches caused by the metal clamp. You could place a section of rummer hose (or electrical tape) on the parts that will come in contact with the handlebar post. I had my clamp on the post just below the post head (where the handle bars mount to the post). You could try to turn it around and put the rubbercoated J hook end under the post and the open end under the seat.

  • A. If placed right at the fork should be no problem. I'm using it lower, just below the big shim so the bike rides higher on the carrier.

  • A. I had the same concern - I think it would definitely scratch. I put a thick piece of electrical tape on the pin. It is thin enough to go through the holes, but offers some rubberized protection.

  • A. You can cut a piece of plastic tubing to fit over the pin. If you have an old inner tube you can wrap it around the gooseneck as well an and secure with zip ties.

I bought a women's bike and it was so awkward trying to get it on the bike rack. With this adaptor bar, it makes it so much easier!

I needed this adjustment bar for my bicycle so I can travel with it. Really easy to attach and remove. Makes the bike fit perfectly and securely. Just what I needed.

Customer has been confirmed to have purchased the item from Walmart.

I've never bought the $35 adaptor bars, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I bought 3 of these for the women's bicycle and 2 kids' bikes (16" and 18") and it did the job fine on the women's and 18" kids bike. No sense paying more than necessary. The adaptor bar was just a bit too long for the 16" kids bicycle - the seat-post wouldn't clear past the opening of the hook in order to secure the bicycle, but I was able to rig something up and used straps to make it work. The instructions do say it needs a minimum of 18" between seat-post and stem, and not 16" as noted in the Item Description. But otherwise it worked perfectly on the 18" kids bike and for anything larger. The bar seems sturdy and secure and it worked well on the 2300 mile road-trip we just finished with bikes hanging on a hitch-mounted bike rack.

Product is fine I wish they would carry in our store since most of the new mountain bikes sold need one to use on bike carrier.

This is a great adaptor bar, however, it's not really made for mtn bikes and girls (kids) bikes because there isn't enough clearance between the bike and the handle bars to affix the bar. It can be done safely though. Just make sure to use the after market straps to keep your bikes together at the bottem and to strap in the top very tightly. I found that if you e-mail "Allen", the manufacturer, they're VERY helpful and you can look up the instructions for these online BEFORE you buy them! Happy biking!
