About the Album

A Different Me offers more dimensions, from lyrical and production standpoints, than Keyshia Cole's first two albums. Everything she recorded prior to this came from some degree of pain. Even though Just Like You's "Heaven Sent" was as beatific as anything else on the charts throughout 2008, its sentiment came more from a sense of relief in the wake of relationships gone sour, and "Let It Go" was made for the club but dealt with "roaming dogs." Overall, this is Cole's most free-spirited and adventurous album to date, and it is not without its stretches where reach exceeds grasp, like the jazzed-up, over-busy statement of purpose "Make Me Over" and the surprisingly saccharine "This Is Us." Yet there's a core of at least seven songs here that rate as highly as the best from the first two albums, and they're anything but reheated. "Don't Stop" beams with energy and pure, uncomplicated joy. "Oh-Oh, Yeah-Yea" is yearningly seductive, from Cole's pleas to its drawn-out tides of strings. In "Thought You Should Know," she doesn't drop her guard entirely while revealing more vulnerability than ever. "No Other" is the only track that sounds cut from the same cloth as Just Like You, and the resemblance is only in sound, with the equally urgent and sweepingly dramatic "Shoulda Let You Go" a definite reference, but the emotions between the two are starkly contrasting, with regret exchanged for aching desire. Cole pushes herself into new territory and becomes a more versatile songwriter and vocalist in convincing, frequently thrilling, fashion. Here's where the comparisons begin to fade away. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

Rated 4 out of 5★ by pleasantly surprised Wasn't sure if i was going to like this CD or not but I was very pleased with it.. Not something I would have expected but I enjoy it. I listen to it often. I enjoy all the songs on it.. 01/20/2009
Rated 5 out of 5★ by I think Keyshia's cd is the best out there. She's beautiful, she writes her own music, her tv show is the BBBBOMB! Keyshia, Jennifer H, Tamia, Alicia and Mary J. Are my favorite female singers. 12/29/2008
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Keyshia keeps getting better and better I bought her first album, and it was so good that when she was getting ready to release her second, I wondered if it could be just as good as, if not better than The Way It Is. Yet, she exceeded my expectations with the second and third album. She has good, solid music, hot beats, and relatable material. She just keeps getting better and better. This release is a "press play" album. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys good music. 01/26/2009
Rated 5 out of 5★ by A NEW KEYSHIA!!! I am a huge fan of Keyshia Cole. I love her music, her lyrical content, & the way she carries herself as a female artist in today's game. Her new CD is, I will admit, not what I expected. Her song topics, I still strongly relate. I love the CD but I don't know it didn't hit me like the last two. I found myself kind of just bobbing thru the cd like, "ok that song is cool," but nothing that made me go, OH YEAH SHE DID THAT! I don't know how to describe it. I will say, though, that 'MAKE ME OVER' i like that. It was hot and the joint with Monica is a favorite of mine as well. But overall should you get this cd. YES!!! It's Keyshia!!!! 12/27/2008
