"Palm Springs Weekend": Troy Donahue headlines this romp as Jim Munroe, captain of the West's #1 college basketball team, in town with his buddies for a fast-break frolic of fun, sun and romance. Jim meets true love Bunny (Stefanie Powers) at a record store. Gail (Connie Stevens) falls for the wrong guy (Robert Conrad) but emerges with reputation unsullied thanks to Stretch (Ty Hardin). Team nerd Biff (Jerry Van Dyke) finds he doesn't need the "romance machine" he invented when the real thing (Zeme North) comes along. And Coach Campbell (Jack Weston) puts on a full-court press to win Naomi (Carole Cook). Join in on this zingy spring fling! "Parrish": Delmer Daves directs the screenplay based on a novel by Mildred Savage. Troy Donahue plays the title role as a teen growing up in the Connecticut tobacco fields, and becoming a man after love affairs with three women and a fight against his evil step-family. A guilty pleasure, "Parrish", also stars Claudette Colbert, Karl Malden and Dean Jagger. Adding to the atmosphere is a score by Max Steiner. "Rome Adventure": Tired of stuffy New England, Prudence Bell (Suzanne Pleshette) longs for a "Rome Adventure". So she heads for the Eternal City and encounters a handsome student (Troy Donahue), a dashing older man (Rossano Brazzi) - and competition from a wily woman of the world (Angie Dickinson). In his fourth collaboration with Donahue (the first was "A Summer Place"), writer/director Delmer Daves again proves his skill at bringing the heartbreak and joys of romance to the movies. Here, Daves also lushly captures the incredible art and architecture of Rome. Then, in several beautiful scenes, his young lovers take a holiday to the Italian Alps, Verona, Pisa, Lake Maggiore and more breathtaking sights. How romantic is "Rome Adventure"? Well, the stars Pleshette and Donahue married two years later! "Susan Slade": Susan Slade has beauty, romance, possessions...and a secret she can NEVER reveal. To a generation of moviegoers, coming of age included four special films: "A Summer Place". "Parrish". "Rome Adventure". And "Susan Slade". Written for the screen and directed by Delmer Daves, this passionate drama contains all the right ingredients - a pretty and innocent teen (Connie Stevens), intense young men who lover her (including Stevens' "Parrish" co-star Troy Donahue), money, stunning clothes, gorgeous scenery, secrets, sex and heartbreak. The story begins with Susan's first affair, which ends tragically when the boy is killed and Susan, already pursued by two other young men, is left pregnant. Her devoted parents offer to pass the infant off as their own. But can Susan deny her own child, even if revealing the scandalous truth means giving up a second chance at love.
