I bought this TV for my son and after hooking it up to our Sony 5.1 DVD sourround sound system it sounded great. When he hooked up his Xbox the sound would not play thru the surround sound, only the TV speakers. What are we doing wrong?

    • A. Do you have the X-Box connected to the surround system if yes then it may be a compatibility issue but only on certain games (usually the 7.1 encoded games) I have an older sony surround receiver and have the optical input hooked up. You may have to upgrade. Also you can try using an optical out on the tv to the receiver if your receiver has an optical input.

    • A. You may have the the picture and the stereo audio jacks both pluged into the TV, you may have to use 2 sets of cables 1 for the picture from the X-box to the TV and 1 for the sound from the x-box to the Dolby 5.1 Amp

I purchased this tv 1-30-09 At walmart. I had been shopping around for the past month looking at several tvs. This one was by far the best! Im Very pleased with it. I was going to go for a 32" But im SO glad i went with a 42" It makes any room look wonderful!! The picture it amazing, Although i do not have HD, it still looks great! The only thing is the Sound, Some channels or commercials you hear a buzz sound, you can minimize it with the volume control. But i recommend a surround sound, Im am looking around for a good deal for one now. But yet something small that can be fixed. OVERALL A GREAT DEAL!!! MUST GET FOR THE PRICE!!!

Owned the Philips for several weeks and have enjoyed the product without any problems. Picture quality rivals that of the best from Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, and Visio for black and color rendition. The high contrast ratio on this Philips accounts for the deep blacks and colors that it can produce. Easy to set up with its built-in set up guide. Can be fine tuned easily by the user as well. But if you are a fast action sports fan, then probably the Philips is not for you or any LCD TV for that matter. Even though the refresh rate is 5ms, fast sports action still has that pixelated, blurred effect that you just don't see on a plasma or DLP TV. Performance at the 1080p level is superb. Colors are rich, details are sharp and you can easily see the fine details on the actor's face during their closeups. This TV consumes very little electricity when in power saver mode, only 60-65 watts when measured with my Kill-A-Watt meter. Compared to similar sized plasma TVs, I measured a 42" Samsung plasma which consumed 375 watts for comparison. As others have noted, the sound is probably the weakest point on this TV. That is due to the default settings it uses on Standard mode with the Incredible Surround turned on. Once this surround mode is turned off, then dialog can be easily heard over the background sound. Another area to watch out for is that the connectors are all on the back of the TV. If you decide to wall mount, plan to provide enough room for you to get to the connectors in the back. One nice feature of the Philips is the USB connector to display pictures in a slideshow presentation. One glaring omission is the lack of a VGA connector for you to plug your computer into to display images and documents with the Philips. Overall, I have been very pleased with the picture quality, features and performance of the Philips. You will be hard pressed to find a better LCD TV at this price that will match the picture and features that this Philips LCD offers. Highly recommended for those looking to spend well less than $1000 on a new HDTV.

I did extensive research for months. I saw every TV on the planet. I know all the tech stuff on LCDs and plasmas now. This TV, for the price, blew me away. The picture, if set up correctly at the store, looks as good as sony. There is nothing better for the price. If you see something for a little less, pay a bit more for this one. Philips measures their contrast ratio differently so you cannot compare that with other LCDs. However, that is the real difference. Black blacks and white whites. You can see it. I'm looking at it right now (DirecTV) and I am still, after 5 months, in awe of the picture quality. My friends all have LCDs but my house has become the place to be on Saturdays (for football and the TV, not me). Good sound, not great. Easy, easy setup (my 10 year old did it, I just watched and I didn't have to correct him once). Don't hesitate, buy it.

This is a great TV so far, and I am very happy with it. The picture quality is AWESOME when using it as intended (1080p / Blu-Ray etc.). Warning! - If this is your first HDTV, don't be surprised if the picture looks awful when viewing non-HD content; all HDTVs are like that. The problem is the source/video, and not the TV. Regular cable only broadcasts about a 1/3 of the pixels required to fill the screen. Plus, the bigger the screen the more emphasis there is on each pixel - making it appear snowy. Be prepared to want Hi-Def from either your cable provider or satellite company when buying an HDTV. Another trick is to buy a DVD/Blu-ray player with an up-converter. This will make regular DVDs look much better. It does this by digitally converting their resolution up to 1080p by filling in the missing pixels, making for a much cleaner picture - simulated 1080p. The sound system is like most stereo TVs; the quality is good enough for everyday watching, but there is nothing mind blowing about it. But, no matter what TV you buy you will need a sound system to go with it if you want the full experience. The only thing I'm disappointed about are some of the on-screen programmable options. Probably the biggest thing is the channel info. It takes up half the screen when clicking though channels, and you apparently cannot disable it. Nothing major, I just rather see video content when I'm flipping through channels instead of channel info. This TV is also fully upgradable - meaning they can add new features or change settings with new software. Hint...hint....option to turn off channel info screen please! There is also 120hz (2ms) version of this TV for about $400 more. Not really worth it, unless you have money to burn. I have not seen any bleeding, ripping or tearing to warrant spending the extra cash on a reduction in response time. 5ms seems to be plenty fast enough when rendering pretty much any picture.
