About this item

Shocking gore and artistic brilliance mark the return of Dario Argento, "one of the best horror directors ever" (, as he concludes his classic "Three Mothers" trilogy (including "Suspiria" and "Inferno"). Argento's daughter, Asia Argento, stars as Sarah, a young American art student who naively opens an ancient chest releasing unimaginable evil into Rome. As violence and murder reach epidemic heights, Sarah must use her untapped magic powers to destroy the last great witch in human history. Splattered with scenes of death and debauchery, "Mother Of Tears" is "a rousingly insane movie-going experience" ( destined to satisfy Argento fans and newcomers alike.

Nepotism, An Ugly Thing

Customer review by Valveking66

I'm a big Dario Argento fan, his early works are masterpieces of suspense horror films but this is not the strong conclusion to his Three Sisters Trilogy that I'd hoped for. Suspiria was great, Inferno not bad, this last film of the trilogy is full of gore and feels amateurish rather than refined after years of mastering film as art. There's tons of dark gore, it start off promising but then slowly loses pace and starts to grind sloppily into mindless meanderings suggesting ominous doom, but fails to actually manifest a real sense of evil and world controlling evil witchcraft. Looking back over the trilogy, I guess it was always there... Argento doesn't have the depth to follow through, only suggest great things... he is a superficial master but lacks the ability to create the profound followthrough in his works. This trilogy comes off as a tease of better things to come and falls short. The fact he cast his own daughter is a huge mistake, Asia is neither a good actress and she's not good looking... she inherited her father's looks instead of her mother's who is also cast as the ghost of her mother in this film(laughably so). A huge let down and it took about 30 years to come to fruition? all for this? sad.
