Wal-Mart is discontinuing DVD Rentals. Wal-Mart has teamed up with Netflix to offer current members of Wal-Mart DVD Rentals the ability to sign up with Netflix at their current Wal-Mart rate. The rate will be good for one year from the date of signup. Wal-Mart is no longer accepting new members for DVD Rentals.

How does it benefit me to cancel my Wal-Mart DVD Rentals account and sign up with Netflix?

When you cancel with Wal-Mart and sign up with Netflix, the largest, most popular online DVD rental service, you will receive the Netflix benefits at your current Wal-Mart membership rate. Benefits include:

When you sign up with Netflix, your current Wal-Mart membership rate and plan are good for one year from the date you sign up. So if your Wal-Mart plan is for three DVDs out at once, at Netflix you will have three DVDs out at once at your current Wal-Mart rate.

This offer is good for all members of Wal-Mart DVD Rentals who cancel their accounts on or after May 19, 2005.

No. The Wal-Mart rate is good only for members of Wal-Mart DVD Rentals who cancel on or after May 19, 2005.

What happens on June 17, 2005, if I am a Wal-Mart DVD Rentals member and have not signed up with Netflix?

You can continue to use Wal-Mart DVD Rentals until 11:59 p.m. (PT), Thursday, June 16, 2005. After June 16, Wal-Mart will discontinue its current DVD Rentals service and your membership will end. If you take no action, your Wal-Mart DVD Rentals membership will automatically end after this date.

When you cancel your membership, or if you do not cancel your membership and it automatically cancels after June 16, 2005, Wal-Mart will refund you the unused portion of your membership for the time that remains in your monthly billing cycle. Once your membership is canceled, we will also send you an email requesting that you return within seven days any Wal-Mart DVDs you still have out, and also stating that your credit card will be charged $17.88 for each DVD not returned within the seven days.

I just paid for another month of Wal-Mart DVD Rentals membership. Will I be reimbursed if I cancel it?

When you cancel with Wal-Mart - or if you do not cancel with Wal-Mart by June 16, 2005, and your membership automatically ends - we will refund you for the unused portion of your membership for the time that remains in your monthly billing cycle.

I am on the Wal-Mart DVD Rentals 30-day free trial period. Can I sign up with Netflix and continue the free trial period?

You cannot continue the free trial at Netflix. But you can use your free trial at Wal-Mart through June 16, 2005, and then sign up at Netflix for your current Wal-Mart monthly rate and plan.

What should I do with the Wal-Mart DVDs I have out?

From the day you cancel your Wal-Mart DVD Rentals account, you have seven days to return any Wal-Mart DVDs you have out. Your credit card will be charged $17.88 for each DVD not returned within seven days. If you never cancel your account, it will automatically cancel after June 16, 2005. You will then have seven days from June 17, 2005, to return your DVDs to us. Your credit card will be charged $17.88 for each DVD not returned within seven days.

If you have not signed up with Netflix by 11:59 p.m. (PT), Thursday, June 16, 2005, we will send you an email with a promotional code so you can still get your current Wal-Mart membership rate at Netflix. After Dec. 17, 2005, you are not eligible for your current Wal-Mart rate at Netflix.

Yes. For instance, you can cancel with Wal-Mart today and sign up with Netflix tomorrow, although there is no particular benefit in taking two steps. Through June 16, 2005, you can cancel with Wal-Mart and sign up with Netflix by going through the Walmart.com Web site when you close this pop-up. After June 17, 2005, we will send you an email with a promotional code that will allow you to sign up at Netflix at your current Wal-Mart DVD Rentals rate. This promotional code will be valid until December 17, 2005.

If I have not redeemed my Wal-Mart DVD Rentals gift subscription, will I be reimbursed for it?

There are three possibilities for reimbursement:

1. Redeem your gift subscription, use your free trial period, and sign up with Netflix: Redeem your gift subscription and use your free trial at Wal-Mart DVD Rentals through June 16, 2005. After June 16, we will reimburse you for the unused portion of your gift subscription, and you will be eligible for two DVDs out at once at Netflix for the rate of $12.97 per month. For instance, if you redeem a two-month gift subscription, you can use your free trial period through June 16, 2005. Then we will reimburse your credit card for the two months of unused subscription time. After June 17, 2005, you will also be sent a promotional code to use on Netflix, which will make you eligible for the program that is two DVDs out at once for $12.97 per month.

2. Redeem your gift subscription and sign up with Netflix immediately: When you redeem your gift subscription at Wal-Mart, immediately cancel your subscription, and sign up with Netflix, you will skip your 30-day free trial at Wal-Mart DVD Rentals but will be eligible for two DVDs out at once for $12.97 a month at Netflix. For instance, if you redeem a two-month gift subscription with Wal-Mart DVD Rentals and cancel it immediately, we will credit your credit card for two months of subscription at $12.97 per month. When you cancel with Wal-Mart, you will be taken to Netflix to sign up. At Netflix, you will receive the $12.97 rate for two DVDs out at once.

3. If the Wal-Mart DVD Rentals gift subscription is not redeemed: We will send an electronic gift card, equivalent to the total amount of the gift subscription, to the email address of the gift recipient. If the recipient chooses not to redeem the gift subscription, he or she will also receive an email after June 16, 2005, that contains a promotional code for Netflix that will make the person eligible for two DVDs out at once for $12.97 per month.
