Canopy's smart design and storage solutions are designed for efficiency – as well as good looks. Here's how to make small spaces feel bigger.
Create unity.
Scattered and mismatched collections make spaces feel crowded. Group similar items together on one shelf. Arrange books with books, games with games, and collectibles together.
Mirror, mirror.
It's true: large wall mirrors create the illusion of a large room. Our Round and Rectangular Mirrors are generously sized and finished to match Canopy furniture.
The power of two.
Using two rugs instead of one gives a sense of spaciousness and adds a cozy look. Choose two Rugs of the same style or two styles that coordinate, but don't clash.
Go monochromatic.
Walls that are painted the same color as the ceiling create the feeling of a larger space. Using lighter shades of cool colors such as white, icy blue and pale green will help enhance this illusion. Choose a furniture upholstery color that's in the same color family as your walls (or select a paint color that complements the tone of your furniture) to keep the contrast low.
Add a multitasker.
An ottoman provides a soft, flat surface that works as a table or extra seating for company. Our Upholstered Storage Ottoman also has hidden space for stowing toys, pillows, blankets and other things that don't fit in the closet.
Clean lines.
Opt for streamlined furniture with straight and simple lines. Elaborate details such as scrolled arms and turned legs on furniture will make a room look busy — something you don't want when space is limited. Our Upholstered Sofa and Armchair have straightforward, but classic designs that work well in tight spaces.
Eliminate obstructions.
Arrange furniture to open up areas of floor space. Avoid blocking views to windows and doors by using low benches, ottomans and armless chairs next to them.
Lighten up.
A well-lit room tends to look roomier. Keep windows uncovered to maximize natural light during the day. Consider lighting such as table lamps, torchiere lights or bookshelf lighting to brighten the room after dark.
Big focus.
Look for one large-scale piece, such as a full-size sofa, a Tall Table placed in a corner or a large wall mirror, to trick the eye and make the space feel larger. (Besides, a sofa is much more comfortable than a loveseat!)
Contain clutter.
Stray magazines, paperwork, toys and odds and ends tend to swallow up small rooms. Keeping these items under cover will make a room seem larger. For tips on organizing, see Conquer Clutter.
