Biography

Music from Austin, Texas? Blues, country, folk yeah, sure, but punk? Yeah, you bet, and the Riddlin' Kids are an example of just that.

Austin natives Clint Baker (vocals, guitar) and Dustin Stroud (guitar, vocals) first met when they were both working at the same pizza place. They each quit the bands they were playing with and teamed up. Their hyperactive stage presence prompted the naming of the group after the same named hyperactive children's drug. Spelled Riddlin' Kids to avoid any unnecessary legal problems, the group cut an EP, What Does It Matter. About this time, Dave Keel (drums) joined the group and later Mark Johnson (bass) completed the roster.

The Kids continued to gig, landing opening slots for the likes of Fenix TX, Newfound Glory, and others. Another demo garnered them airplay on Austin's KROX and a spot on the station's Top 50 year-end playlist. More supporting slots followed (Staind, BossTones, etc.) and appearances at the Gravity Games and the Warped tour stop in Austin. In 2001, the Kids copped the trophy for Best Alt Rock/Punk Band at the Austin Music Awards.

In 2002, Riddlin' Kids released its debut album, Hurry Up and Wait. The album landed on the charts and the group toured.
