Who has sold more albums, L.L Cool J or Keith Sweat? If it surprises you to discover the answer is Sweat then it's time you took another look his way. According to RIAA, Sweat has also outsold artists like Cher, Anita Baker and Snoop Dog. Fellow top-sellers include The Temptations and John Lennon. Caught your attention now?
Sweat's solid musical history began in 1975 as a member of the well-known Harlem band Jamilah, where he earned his wings to fly solo with the debut album Make It Last Forever in 1987. The past two decades have been spent honing his skills and contributing to the creation of the hybrid style of music known as New Jack Swing, or Swingbeat. This synthesis of rhythms, hip-hop and drum samples with contemporary R&B is the culmination of both old and new into something smooth, sexy and stylish.
Don't be fooled though, trendy isn't part of Sweat's musical vocab. The mega-artist has stayed true to his past with his latest release and ninth studio album, Just Like Me. Loyal fans will be relieved to find that the album is pure, glorious Sweat. "Somebody" leads the album and sets the stage for the rest of the project. It's a first time for Sweat as he croons falsetto for much of the song. Just when you thought that someone as established as Sweat couldn't possibly surprise he pulls another gift out of his bottomless bag of talent tricks.
"Love You Better," featuring Keyshia Cole, was first leaked in January 2007 as the album's first single. The duet sends adrenaline coursing as the singers share their feelings of attraction towards each other. The only complication is that they are in relationships with other people. Sweat can make even the forbidden worth pursuing.
Some particular standouts include "Suga Suga Suga" with Paisley Bettis and another collaboration "Butterscotch" with Athena Cage. Not for the g-rated crowd as "Butterscotch" lyrics are laden with enough sexual tension to raise the temperature quite a few degrees. This reunion with Cage is sweetened even more by the knowledge that protégé and student have come full circle once again. Sweat discovered the group Kut Klose and Cage was one of the vocalists.
If you are searching for an album that gets hotter the more it's played slip Just Like Me in the machine and keep Sweatin'.

Keith Sweat is a Harlem-born R&B singer⁄songwriter who released his debut album, Make It Last Forever, at the end of 1987. The album sold over three million copies, spawning the hits "I Want Her" (number one R&B, number five pop), "Something Just Ain't Right" (number three R&B), "Make It Last Forever" (number two R&B), and "Don't Stop Your Love" (number nine R&B). It was followed in June 1990 by I'll Give All My Love to You, another million-seller, which featured the hits "Make You Sweat" (number one R&B, number 14 pop), "Merry Go Round" (number two R&B), "I'll Give All My Love to You" (number one R&B, number seven pop), and "Your Love, Pt. 2" (number four R&B). Sweat's third album was Keep It Comin', an R&B chart-topper at the end of 1991, whose title track was another number one R&B hit. In 1994 he returned with Get Up on It; a self-titled release followed in 1996, and two years later he issued Still in the Game. Didn't See Me Coming (2000), Rebirth (2002), and the live Sweat Hotel (2007) followed. Two albums recorded with Gerald LeVert and Johnny Gill, billed as LSG (and released in 1997 and 2003), were also considerably successful. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
