Great Bike,
06/06/2009
This bike is excellent, especially for the price. I like it as much or more than those I ride at the local gym.
Assembly: I put the bike together by myself in ~1 hour with no assistance. It is solidly constructed, and all of the pieces fit together perfectly. The instructions were easy to follow, and everything was packaged neatly.
Performance: This bike is very, very quiet. You can talk, watch TV, or listen to the radio at normal volume while riding. It also peddles smoothly, and the eight levels of resistance are more than enough. The adjustment is manual…meaning that you turn a knob below the handlebars to increase or decrease resistance. I usually ride at the first level and switch to the 3rd level at intermediate times. It is a great workout, but if I really wanted to “push it,” the higher levels would provide more than enough resistance.
Reliability: So far, so good. My wife and I have been riding it almost daily for ~1 month, and it still works perfectly.
Display: The computer is simple and runs on two AA batteries (included). It is not fancy, but it is easy to read and it gives you the basics: time, speed, distance, calories, odometer.
Perks: The bike is light, and it has wheels on the front for easy transport. The back base also has adjustable feet to make stabilizing the bike a breeze. I also turned the handlebars around (which are adjustable), since this makes it easier for me to hold on while riding upright. I’m 6’1”. My wife sometimes switches them back around, which is easy to do since they are attached with an adjustable bolt.
Suggestions: If you adjust the seat often for height, I’d recommend putting grease on the bolt to reduce wear and make adjustment easier.
Seat: I’ve ridden upright bikes for some time, so I understood that the seat may take some getting used to. Indeed, the first few rides were a little uncomfortable. Like other reviewers, I bunched up a small, thick towel and put it on the seat for a few days. Now, I don’t use the towel at all and find the seat to be comfortable. Some folks never seem to get comfortable on upright bikes. For these folks, I suspect any seat will never feel comfortable, and hence it is no fault of the manufacturer. My recommendation is to try out an upright bike at the local gym or YMCA for a few days and see if it is for you.
