Feels Natural,
01/03/2009
I bought this hoping to be able to watch videos and store lots of music on it. It turns out that it's great for both. Once you install the software, you can use either Windows or the included software to add files to the player. It's very simple and easy.
The controls for the player itself are very easy to use, and feel quite natural. I got the hang of navigating through the menus right away. The screen is large enough to see videos clearly, and the built-in FM radio is a very nice bonus. Being able to use an SD memory card for extra storage is great too, and the built-in microphone is handy. The battery life is decent.
When you are watching videos, you can fast-forward or rewind with ease, and the speed at which both tasks are performed increases the longer you hold the button down. The speed of scrolling through a list of files/tracks also increases the longer you hold down the button. This allows you to find a particular track easily, even if you have hundreds on your player.
There are only minor drawbacks to this player:
You MUST use the included video converter to convert videos. No matter what formats you try to use with other converting programs, videos will not play unless converted with the included software, and the included software takes twice the time of other converting software.
Also, it is difficult to make a playlist on the player; you must dock your player and use the included software to easily make a playlist.
When viewing pictures, the player cannot display really wide pictures. It also cannot zoom or pan when viewing pictures.
You can't use SDHC cards, so you're limited to 2GB of extra space.
The player does not have a speaker, so you have to buy an MP3 speaker if you don't want to use ear buds. This makes the alarm clock feature useless.
The memory card is treated as removable storage in the player, and it's difficult to add files to the memory card through the player; it is best to remove the card and then add files to it with a card reader or SD card slot on your PC.
You can't play videos from the player on your TV through your Xbox 360 console.
If the player has been off for a while, it takes it a long time to start up.
