Rated 5 out of 5 by Control the Spitting with a wet cloth This cooker make great rice, with easy cleanup. Rice on the bottom is a little crispy, but not burned, and I like the bottom layer the best. My old rice cooker was such a pain to clean. This cooker can be wiped off with a wet sponge. The only problem is the mess from spitting starchy liquid out the vent hole. You can control that mess by loosely placing a wet paper towel or dish cloth on top of the hole, allowing steam to vent but catching the wet mess that comes out. 11/08/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by My Black & Decker I wondered why there were so many complaints about this product, but I guess some people are following the instructions that come with the cooker. Wrong! I went to Cuba, got hooked on rice, and my future mother-in-law showed me how to make the best rice with the cooker. Basically, one measure of rice (a full measure in the cup that comes with the rice cooker) should be matched with a cup and 1/2 of water. (2 full measures + 3 full measures of water and so on) She adds a little oil and some salt to make white rice. I have never had the dripping or splattering problem. The flavored rices (like Goya) are excellent when made with this cooker. Also, steaming is pretty easy and very efficient with this cooker. Also, "mi mamucha" showed me how to seat the cooking container in the cooker before cooking: spin it counter-clockwise before beginning to cook. I use the cooker at least three times a week. The oly problem is positioning the unit in an area where the steam will not discolor cabinets. If you are fortunate to have an ample kitchen, you're cool. Scary! When I got home from work on the day after I ordered this product it was sitting in its FedEx box on my porch! That was after paying the lowest shipping rate. Unbelievable! I bought this product twice. I plan to stuff my new unit in a duffle bag and take it to mamucha to replace her aging, metal rice cooker. I can't wait to see their faces when I pull it out of the bag! 05/10/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by A great product I read some reviews before purchasing this product. What concerned me was when others mentioned that the water spilled over or bubbled over onto counter tops. But after using this product for a while, i don't know where those reviewers got that idea. It's never bubbled over and i think the only reason why it will bubble over is if you put in too much water. And the hard crust will only form if you leave it on warm for an extended period of time. Besides, the manual mentions that there will be some crust formation so i took that as being forewarned. This is a great product and it does what it says it will do so i will recommend it to everyone.I haven't used it for that long so i can't comment on the durability though. 01/12/2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Worth the $$ We've used rice cookers before, and know for sure, that this one meets the expectations of a decent rice cooker, without pinching the pocket. Not many fancy features - just the "Cook" and "Warm" buttons. I haven't had the problem of water from the vent in the lid - that some others have complained about. But then, we've had it only for about a month now, and I haven't tried to fill it to the brim (I've seen this happen with my old rice cookers, as well, and usually the cause is when we try to fill the cooker to the brim). The shipping cost and times were very reasonable (though the site said 1 week, we got it in 2 days). I think it is overall a very good value - other non-stick cookers doing the same thing cost at least twice, in any online or retail store. 01/10/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Nice I love this product. This is very nice and we almost daily cook rice in this cooker. We cook brown and white rice and the results are awesome. Rice (White Basmati Rice) cooked very well with aroma and separated grains. If you add appropriate amount of rice and water you will get excellent results. We are completely satisfied with this product. We have not tried soup in this cooker yet. There should be some mechanism to completely auto turn off the cooker once the rice or food is cooked. It goes into heat/warm mode from cook mode once the cooking is done, which is nice as you get warm food always and bad since it eats electricity to keep your food/rice warm until you unplug the cooker/device. Overall, nice product. 11/09/2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by disapointing The cooker causes the bottom 1/2" of rice to become hard, yellow and rubberized. You need to flake the top off and leave the hard stuff. Spews all over the countertop. Have to put a big towel under it to contain the mess. I guess I'll trade in on a different cooker. 01/12/2008
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful Features and Great Value! This Rice Cooker is a wonderful value. It's not only a nice size but the features that allow you position the rice spoon on the side of the cooker and to hook the lid to the cooker instead of tracking water condensation on your countertop is GREAT! All rice cookers should allow include these features. 01/02/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just What I Wanted Black and Decker products are usually quality products and they did not disappoint me. The rice cooker is easy to use and keeps the rice nice and hot while the rest of the meal is being prepared. This was a value product; inexpensive and totally what I wanted in a rice cooker. 10/14/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by We love this product We have used the product for 4 yrs and again replaced recently with the same product. We never had any issues with the product and we are happy with the way it works. 01/30/2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good for just 2 people... At the max 3. When I purchased this product, which says 16-cup rice cooker, I was expecting it to be sufficient for 5-6 people but it turned out otherwise. The cooker is small and can cook only 3 cups of rice at a time. It can cook 1 more cup but the water spills all over the cooker. This product would be ideal for daily cooking for a couple but cannot be used when guests drop by. I'd recommend to get a bigger one. 12/22/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by So far so good Easy to use, easy to clean. Rice was great! Only downside is that you have a minimum of 2 measures of rice, which is about 1.5 cups of dry rice, a little too much for 2 people. 10/27/2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great rice cooker! I bought one of these rice cookers for our son & daughter-in-law a couple of years ago. Once I borrowed it as I had a lot of rice to make for a potluck dinner, and knew I had to have one of my own. It makes cooking rice so much easier. The only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 is because the rice on the bottom of the pan always turns brown. I don't know why as I don't leave it in the pan after the rice is cooked. Other than that I love this cooker! 10/03/2011
Rated 1 out of 5 What a mess! Spews water ALL over the countertop--and it's rice-water, so it formed a crusty film all over itself, all over the counter, and on the floor. (we had to put it close to the edge of the counter because it was spewing "water" onto the bottom of the cabinets). And we did NOT put too much water in. We were only cooking at level 2 - 2 cups. I am returning it today! 01/07/2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pleased! It works well; larger than I expected which is a very nice positive! 10/17/2012

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bought this for mygrandaughter who is on a rice kick- and she can use it in her dorm. 10/15/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by We are quite happy with the rice cooker. Our only complaint is that the rice tends to stick to the bottom, but it cleans up easily and the rice tastes great so not a big deal. 10/15/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product and Reliable. We cook rice every day twice. It never disappointed us. 09/12/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by LOVE IT!!! I purchased this, as my old Black and Decker that was very similar, had an aluminum or stainless steel bowl. The rice constantly stuck to the bottom, and I would have to scrape like crazy to clean. This one? A breeze! I LOVE IT! My first meal............rice, can of spiced diced tomatoes, and frozen Tilapia filets thrown in..........came out perfect! Excellent cleaning! 09/12/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Black & Decker RCA 436 Rice Cooker I love the way the rice comes out perfectly each time and the ease of the clean up. I own it and have purchased it for my children also to enjoy with their family's. 08/31/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Rice Cooker Bought this to replace my old Black & Decker Rice Cooker that finally died. My only negative with this one is the non-detachable cord. My old one had a detachable cord that really made it easy to store. Now for some of the things I like about this one - I LOVE the on cooker rice spoon storage; love how you can hook the lid on the side of the cooker and my NUMBER ONE reason for liking this one - SIMPLICITY! I like the simplicity of loading the rice and water and then just hitting the cook button. 08/26/2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good Product Took a lil while to get the hang of using it. I was uncertain about instructions on how much rice to use with measuring cup provided but I eventually got it. Rice cooks well. Great buy for the price. 07/28/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by YUM, YUM.... Wow. This is my first Rice cooker. I never really believed in having one, I always thought it was for the lazy person. But it really comes in handy. Though I've only had this for a couple weeks, I've cooked rice in about 5 times so far. Every time the rice has come out to perfection. I normally cook Jasmine rice and it comes out the way it should. The only thing I do not like about it is that you can not cook just one cup. You have to at least cook 2 cups and up. Though I experimented in cooking just one cup, it is a little hard to master even when you think you have the measurements down, but otherwise if you follow the directions everything turns out well. The biggest amount I have cooked is Three cups of rice for two people, More than enough, had some for left overs. It actually shuts off from cook mode on its own when it is done cooking and goes to Warm state. I normally unplug as soon as it goes to the Warm state, because it actually stays warm for a long time after unplugged. I have never just let it stay on the Warm mode long, so cant say how it does on that mode. But if you have been wanting one, try this one out. One of the better prices, specially if it is your first one and you don't really care about the other gadgets that the other one come with. It works well with Brown rice as well with all White rices. I'm glad I got regardless of the other bad reviews. Just follow directions, not how you would normally cook rice or the directions on the rice bag. Just follow just as it says in the book. Good luck. 07/19/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome purchase I and my flat mates just love the cooker. It is so awesome and very easy to clean. Buy it, you will not regret the decision. 06/15/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by The add which said 16cup was a little bit guiding as i was thinking its a 16 cup rice cooker, I realized after it arrival that it is only 7 cup rice cooker and can yield to 16cups cooked. Other wise its a good one to have at home. 06/09/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good buy After reading all the reviews, especially the negatives ones, I was initially a little apprehensive. But since the price is quiet low I bought it and my purpose was to use it for cooking when I travel. As others have mentioned, 3 cups of rice can be maximum cooked. Ideally 2 cups is better. To cook rice a little firm, 1 cup rice to 2 to 2 and 1/4 cups water should be good. It doesn't spill in this case. If we want a little overcooked rice, then 1 cup rice to 2.5 cups water should be good. Water starts spilling a little when 3 cups of rice and a ratio of more than 2 and a 1/4 cups of water is added. So be careful not to cook 3 cups with more water. 06/08/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worth to buy I am using this product for past 4 yrs. Very good product. 05/06/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 Cooks quick and works great It's a simple, durable and works great in a single button click. It has two modes: cook & warm after cook. Actually its a 6 cup (max) rice cooker, people may misunderstood by the way the product name is shown as 16-cup. Its nothing but the total capacity of rice and water in 1:2 ratio. We have used this cooker more often and cooks well. It comes with vegetable basket and a rice spoon. 04/25/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by worth the money! It's a nice product...totally worth the money..it has long durability too..I highly recommend this product.. 04/15/2012
